Starting to freak out a little about hysterectomy

Ladies,
I'm down to just a few more days before my hysterectomy. I've kept it together pretty well the past couple of months, now I'm seeing babies everywhere, I dreamt of dying on the table last night, and my stress is so bad I've developed numular eczema on my hands. I struggle with anxiety and depression, mostly anxiety, but don't want to take my PRN because I haven't needed to take anything for almost two years. I pray a ton and my faith has kept me grounded thus far. Does anyone have any suggestions for distractions or stress relief? I'm single, no kids, work and go to school FT, and don't have much of a social life. I'm planning to make a lot of meals today to freeze for the first couple of weeks post op. Ty!

Re: Starting to freak out a little

Ty,
You need to breath, first. Preparing meals is good. Watch one of your favorite movies and get your books, games, movies and resting place for recovery in order. But breath. You are going to do well. We will be here on the other side to help you through.
I totally understand the fear, I mentioned it to my surgeon so many times. But this is your time to heal and get yourself back in full swing.
Hugs to you.

Hi sstoneglory; I have read other posts which suggest a massage prior to surgery may help. Getting your post-op room/house ready for the anticipated lack of attention after surgery is a great distraction for many of us. There is just something therapeutic about cleaning. LOL! I would also suggest any hobbies you have have which fill your mind with repetitive tasks and don't require a lot of deep concentration - things like crochet and knitting seem to be good. The day before surgery was the most difficult for me - lots of deep breaths and just trying to stay focused on the goal! Best wishes to you. Soon the stress and anxiety will be gone and you'll finally be able to focus on your on recovery!
