emotional post op
Hi,
I am about 2.5 weeks post op of a divinci hysterectomy, leaving one ovary. And I am not normally a person who crys easily, but I think I have cried every day. It can be a sad story or just think about people who have passed. I do not want HRT. I had a tubal ligation at 21 because the hormones in birth control pills, were not good for me. My GYN says she likes Effexor(SP?) at a low dose instead of HRT anyway. Its a mood stabalizer and also helps with hot flashes. Does any one know anything about this and why if I have the 1 ovary can't it just do its job? I don't want to be a cry baby. Thanks, Lisa

Re: emotional post op
Hi Lisa,
Don't think for a moment that you're a cry baby! You have been through a lot. Frequently after surgery the remaining ovary or ovaries are in "shock" and don't function correctly. I don't know if yours will get better or not, but sometimes they don't. I just saw my GP the other day and she made a comment... "you might go through menopause now. Oh my god, menopause is going to be so awful for you..." Yikes. But then she relented a bit, because I'm already taking Effexor (actually pristiq, its descendant) for depression. And it its a lifesaver for me. Since surgery I still struggle with the extra bursts of sadness... But hopefully those will fade soon. Hang in there and I hope you feel better soon!
