I second arnica montana. The cream or gel is miraculous when applied topically to bruises. The little pellets are for general all-around recovery. You have to tak ethem in 200 strength which is hard to find . WIDL oATS OR WHOLE FOODS OR INTERNET. Do not take it pre-op as it is a blood-thinner.

OMG I almost knocked myself out
Hi ladies
I think you are all very wise to be thinking about your health and how you can heal well and take the best possible care of yourselves . I just want to caution you to please talk to your drs before adding supplements. While most things are just fine and beneficial we are all different and it isn't wise to assume that what is good for one person is necessarily good and safe for all of us.
After comparing notes check with your drs. Herbs especially need to be taken carefully as they can react negatively with some other medications. Be safe and well.
's, Rita

Good advice Rita...I should have mentioned that in my own post here. I DID check with my doc before taking any of the supplements

OMG I almost knocked myself out
Okay I'm taking these every day:
2 prenatal vitamins-started 6mnths before surgery
2 Viactive chews-with meals
Cenestin 1.25
That's all I'm taking but after reading this post, should I be taking more? What's CoQ10 and fish oil for? Now I feel like I'm slacking in the vitamin supplement department.

OMG I almost knocked myself out
I do not care how much my cuff hurts,I would run like crazy if I saw that thing coming at me!! Anyway I take: 2 multi vitamin,1calcium/magnesium pill,1omega 3 fish oil pill everyday. I can tell a difference in a day I do miss. But I noticed one post said all this promotes tissue healing,so I wonder why my cuff tissue won't heal? Any suggestions? Wonder if vitamin e oil would help? I put in on canker and cold sores, and it makes them heal fast, that is a wet area, wonder what would happen in cuff area,I am getting desperate,4 months post op and cuff as raw as day 1. Help!!!

Hi Jenique,
Co Q10 is another anti-oxidant. It is supposed to help with certain kinds of heart disease prevention and perhaps some cholesterol lowering types of agents.
The same for the fish oil. It's anti-oxidant qualities are more general, like in the days when parents and grandparents made kids take cod liver oil.
I just need all the help I can get given that my family is ripe with heart disease and high cholesterol.

Jenique -
To add to what Elk Queen said, some meds (like my heart pill) deplete your CoQ10...that's why I take it. I know all this vitamin stuff can be overwhelming! My mom was a health nut and started teaching us about vitamins and nutrients by the time we hit kindergarten - otherwise I wouldn't know what the heck to take!

Okay, so I don't have high cholesterol or any heart problems, do I need to take CoQ10 or fish oil? What vitamins do you all recommend I take? Of course, I will talk to Dr first just would like to go in prepared with specifics. Appt is tomorrow. Thanks for replies!

Fish oil is good for joints and for your brain functions( I need any help I can get in that area!). But it can contain a lot of vitamin A and you need to check your rda if you are already taking a multivit.

I would look into a high-quality brand first of all. I use "NOW" brand. Enzymatic Therapies is good. Sometimes the cheap ones are okay, but you want something that will dissolve in a glass of water within an hour, and I use a well-known brand because vitamins aren't regulated by the FDA, and I hope I have a better chance of getting what I'm paying for if I use a reputable company. I bet the other Sisters can chime in with other good brands - it's important (but don't feel like you have to bankrupt yourself on vitamins!).
A good multi-vitamin is important. The Omega-3 fish oil is good. As a woman you'll want calcium, and vitamin D and magnesium actually help your body use the calcium a lot more efficiently. I think I'll stop there. I take a whole lot of vitamins, but if I had to cut down to the basics, this is what I would definitely take. Check with your doc on iron. With my bleeding disorder I need it, but after a hyst...I have no idea. Your doc will know.
Sisters? Other ideas? And correct me if my info is wrong - it won't hurt my feelings as sometimes I mix up my info.
Also, some docs are big on vitamins, and some are very skeptical. It's excellent that you're checking anyway because they'll tell you if any of these will interfere with any meds or medical conditions. Mine took me off vitamin E for one of those very reasons.
Okay, I'll stop now! I love "health stuff" and could discuss forever!
