Help please-Severe headache with nausea

Had LAVH on Thursday, 2/8. Ovaries, uterus and cervix were taken and I had some bladder reinforcement. Was sent home the next day barely 24 hours after surgery, though I was glad to get out of there. Unfortunately, I woke up the next morning with a severe headache and started vomiting. My doctor sent me to the ER, where they did the IV thing because I was dehydrated. Unfortunately, they lost the order for the antinauseau medicine, so I spent half my time in the ER pretty miserable.
I'm back home now and a little concerned because the headache has come back. I never get headaches and this one is pretty intense. I don't want to go back into a nauseau/vomiting cycle. Any suggestions?

Help please-Severe headache with nausea

Hi Lionslamb

Sorry to hear your not feeling well. Do you have any motrin? Sometimes when I used to get a really bad headache and bad cramps, I would take a Motrin 600 and two tylenol. Together they worked magic. If you have a heating pad, try laying it around the back of your neck or sometimes on your head(I know that sounds funny, but I've done it and it worked like a charm). If you can, just lay down with eyes closed with heating pad. Hopefully this will help and you'll feel better soon

(((lionslamb))) I'm so sorry you have been having such an awful time. Question for you - are you on any HRT? I'm not sure if it could explain what's happening with you, but some women find low estrogen levels to be a migraine trigger, and migraines sometimes come with nausea and vomiting. I've only ever had one, and it was because I lowered my estrogen dose - and I did vomit in addition to having the severe headache. Upping my estrogen dose again made it go away. So, this is something to ask your DR about.

Anyway, even though it's a weekend, if you are having the severe headache, I would urge you to call your DR (or the DR on call at his/her practice) to let them know. They may want to see you, or send you to the ER again, before things get worse.

Let us know how things are going, OK?

s,
-Linda

Thanks for your suggestions. The headaches seem to be easing, and I've been able to eat. I can't take Motrin, but I will definitely try a heating pad if another one flares up. Will also check with my doc about the estrogen, though I actually felt better when we pulled the estrogen patch. Thanks again for your help.

Did you have and epidural or spinal? Sometimes that casuses severe headache too. Call your Dr. Because that can fix this kind of headache with what is called a bloodpatch
