Creepy bloodshot eyes!
Hi, all! I have had red bloodshot eyes since the early weeks of my LAVH/BSO on 5/10/05. At my 4 wk checkup the gyn asked what was wrong with my eyes which were especially red that day. I told her I didn't know but thought it was due to dry eyes caused by the drop in estrogen. She said it looked like conjunctivitis to her which really surrpised me. She made me promise I'd go to my GP or eye doctor. Well, I went to GP who said it wasn't conjunctivitis since my eyes had no discharge or hadn't been matting. She thought maybe an allergy. I needed an eye checkup anyway so went on to the ophthalmologist. He--a fairly young doctor--came in after my eyes have been dilated but thought it was dry eyes after hearing about the hysterectomy. He gave me samples of lubricating tears, which haven't really helped any. (I'm wondering why an experienced gynecologist couldn't have diagnosed this if it was due to an extreme estrogen drop????)
Although usually not painful but more uncomortable, the red eyes have gotten really old. Sometimes they look more inflamed than at other times (maybe aggravated more due to especially dry air or eyestrain?) but never really go away. Have any of you experienced this? I am not on any HRT which I cannot take due to prior breast cancer. Anyone experience the red eyes and if so, what did you do for it? Who do I ask now for advice? Thanks for your insights.

Creepy bloodshot eyes!
Hi,
I am bothered by dry and red eyes. I use an over the counter lubricant, but when they are red and no infection the eye dr gives me a perscription drop for a short time to take care of it. The redness is usually allergy to something in the air. I do have a lot of allergies . Sometimes a flare up in inflammation makes the eyes red and the drops help.
I would give your eye dr a call and say they are still red and ask what he suggests . I do know that any over the counter eye drop that is sold to get the red out irritates and makes mine worse.
Oh, I take estrogen hrt and I haven't noticed any difference one way or the other with helping the dry eye. It seems it doesn't get to the eye , just like if one has vaginal dryness, it doesn't reach their either. I need estrogen cream for that. I wish they would come out with estrogen eye drops.
I hope you can get some answers and relief.

dry eyes
Probably due to fibromyalgia, I have had chronic dry eyes for several years now. I have a great opthalmologist who has tried to do several things for me: one is that small inserts were used to block my tear ducts (in order to help me retain fluid in my eyes longer). The other is that he prescribed Restasis for me. Both of these measures after testing to see if I had shogren's syndrome (that's spelled wrong, but I'm blanking on the correct spelling right now).
I can't say that the hysterectomy has made my dry eyes worse... but they are definitely still dry!
