Depressed and still have ovaries help

I'm not 100% sure on this. I know as long as you have ovaries you will still be pms-y. However i know that ovaries are very sensitive and I have heard that any type of operation in the general vacinty will cause hormone inbalance. My docs gave me welburtrin post op to help with my depression. May want to talk to docs. Or my docs also told me to plan a getaway. Maybe if you could do something over a weekend. Just getting out of the house if you feel up to it. Even if its just watching a movie or soemthing. I remember how deprssed I was and one of the things that wan't helping was staring at the same 4 walls day after day. When I went to grocery store I felt a little better, just having gotten out of the house.

Depressed and still have ovaries help

I'm also 3 wks post-op, and yesterday & today I've had the blues, so I know where you're at. I think for me boredom is partially to blame (I already finished all my mini-projects I had planned), & I'm tired of reading so much). Not that I can do a whole lot else at this point, but this evening I went for a walk outside (that helped a lot) & then actually cooked a decent dinner. Had half a glass of wine, & now DH is going to go rent a movie I've been wanting to see. I realize now, at least for me, I'm going to need to start going to town & doing an errand or two (whatever I can manage) every day or so. And although living in my pj's has been nice, it's also making me feel stagnant. I personally won't be going back to work until probably week 5 - I can't imagine going back to work now, even part-time. But each of us is different, for sure. Just don't push yourself too hard, ok?

Namaste, Karen

Depressed and still have ovaries help

mountainpanther, please talk to your doctor right away.

Depression can be serious and it's best if it's treated sooner rather than later. Depression slows recovery and can jeopardize your overall health, and more importantly there are good new treatments available - whether it's talk therapy, drugs or a combination of both. Post-surgical depression is not always about the ovaries. It's true that may women are able to get through it without outside help, but some also get mired in the endless cycle of negative thoughts, lack of motivation and morose thinking.

If your doctor dismisses it as post-surgical blues, talk to your GP or get a referral to a therapist. You've come so far to get better, it's not always something we can just shake out of our heads by change of scenery.

It's good that you're thinking ahead and trying to get back into your old routine. Check with the doctor. Let us know how it goes. This forum can be a lifeline when you're feeling blue, check out the aching hearts forum for a little companionship anytime. So many of us have been through this, we're here to help.

Take care.
