TAH/BSO scheduled for endometrial cancer
Hello everyone, I am new here. I've decided to post to kind of introduce myself, I guess. :-)
Well, I found out yesterday morning that I am scheduled for surgery March 20th. I go in for my pre-op visit on the 17th.
I am very nervous but not really scared...yet. I am trying very hard to keep a positive attitude about this. It all has to come out...uterus, tubes, ovaries and cervix. I am 35-years-old, have never had a child and know now that I never will. Yes, I've cried about that already and I am sure I will again. I've thought about all the things that I've been reading about on this site. The pain, the recovery, sexual dysfunction, depression...everything. It's a lot to absorb.
My family is being okay about this but I wish they could know more of how this is affecting me and stop saying, "Just get it done so you can get better."
The thing is, I do feel better. I feel fine, but what is inside of me has to come out.
I went to the emergency room on January 6th with severe bleeding. I was going on my 2nd week of it and I was near death. I was anemic, out of breath and on the verge of blacking out. The doctor examined me, took out some fibroids and I had a myomectomy. I thought that was it until a week later when my results came back. I have endometrial cancer. That hit me hard. The "C" word is scary. I've been back and forth for exams and such and it seems like it's been going on forever. But, I know as my surgery gets closer I'll wish for some more of that forever time. I feel fine right now because the bleeding has stopped, but I know what is in there won't stop growing unless it's taken care of.
I'm glad there is the Hyster-Sister's site for support and understanding. I need it and I am going to need it a lot afterwards, too.
Thanks.

TAH/BSO scheduled for endometrial cancer
Beanie Pie,
Hugs to you. I am so sorry you are going through this. I had a hysterectomy 6 weeks ago. I've had lots of hot flashes, insomnia, dry skin (symptoms I experienced prior to my hyst.) But I will tell you the sex is great and orgasm is great. I am 39 next month. I started on bio identical hormones to relieve the hot flashes, insomnia and dry skin. It will take some time and probably need to adjust my medication. But life goes on after a hysterectomy. You had mentioned that you have not had children. Can I say that I am genuinely and sincerely sorry for your loss of your womb. Have you thought about a second opinion? There are women on this wonderful site that have gone through the exact dilemma you are now going through. I hope you will connect with them and you can talk to other beautiful women who can help be there to hear your heart.

TAH/BSO scheduled for endometrial cancer
Hiya Beanie Pie~
This site is awesome and the ladies here have definitely been so kind and understanding. Has your doctor decided if you are going to be needing radiation or anything like that post-op? Or is it a touch and go kind of thing? It's good to know that you are feeling better physically, however like you said, just remember how terrible it in January and I'm sure that will keep you convinced of your need to get the hyst. I really hope that everything works out well for you! I also hope that your 'sisters' here can help be inspirational and informative to keep your spirits up! Good luck with everything!

TAH/BSO scheduled for endometrial cancer
Hello Beanie Pie and
We’re happy you joined the Hystersisters community! There is a ton of solid information on the site, and the members have unlimited cyber-hugs to dispense and experiences to share with you at every stage of your journey to good health!
If you haven’t already done so, please do yourself a favor and register to receive Hysterectomy Checkpoints. It’s one of the best features of the site, in my opinion -- designed to accompany you through the entire hysterectomy experience from start to finish, and beyond!
My best advice is to prepare yourself for what’s ahead by reading the Pre-Op Articles. Hints for Your Hysterectomy is another feature that you might want to check out.
Rest assured you have come to the right place. Best wishes as you prepare for your trip to the Castle!
Many s and Best Wishes,

The doctor said they wouldn't know for sure until after the surgery. He said what I have might be contained inside the uterus and I more than likely wouldn't need radiation or chemo. I am hoping that is the case.

Well I will for you that you don't end up needing it, and that it has been contained inside the uterus! You are in my thoughts and prayers!

Beanie Pie,
I hope you are finding some peace with this, and that this site is helping you. I know that it has helped me. I am truly sorry for the loss of not having children. I totally understand. Even though I am 44, it was hard for me to make that final decision that will finalize my infertility. So, I can empathize with you. It is a very hard thing to have to realize, but we can survive and be better for it. I will keep you in my prayers.

TAH/BSO scheduled for endometrial cancer
Beanie Pie:
I went thru this a few months ago, although I was already in menopause.
I am so sorry for your dx. and now your need for surgery. It is scary to get this dx. but understand if you have to have "c" this is probably the best one to have... (At least that's what I have been told). Ususally they can get it by taking the uterus. There are a few women here that have been treated with high doses of progesterone... (it essentially forces the lining to slough off). Perhaps that is an option.. (ALTHOUGH I AM NOT A MEDICAL DOCTOR AND DO NOT MAKE ANY CLAIMS HERE). Your own judgement is best. Because of my age, I did have the surgery and am feeling okay. I had some malignant cells in the peritoneal wash and will be seeing an oncologist on Friday. Feel free to e-mail me if I can help in any way. Also, if they suspect cancer, please have a gyn./oncologist on staff also, as this prevents you from having to have another surgery to extract lymph nodes for staging purposes.
