if you had to have a blood transfusion
Did you have to stay longer then one night in the hospital?
Do you know what her hemoglobin was before your surgery?
My doctor said I have an increased risk for a transfusion because I am already very anemic so these answers will better prepare me.

if you had to have a blood transfusion
Hi learningaswego, I'm not post op yet but did want to mention to you that since you know you might need a transfusion there's the possibility of banking your own blood in advance. I went last week and had my blood banked at the hospital my surgery will be performed in. My doc arranged it and told me it was fine to do as long as done at least 7 days before my surgery. hth, good luck with your surgery!
EDIT: Just saw you were anemic, that is one thing the blood bank tested me for before I was able to store my blood

Yeah I wish I could do that but I don't have enough blood as it is so there is no way they will let me donate my own. Thanks for the idea though, wish I could do that.

if you had to have a blood transfusion
Hi Learningaswego~
How are you? I have not had my hyster yet, it is the day b4 you. But I am a bleeder and I used to be a phlebotomist. A normal Hemoglobin range is around 12.0.
What is yours presently?
I hope you are doing ok as you are "in waiting".......
I know if you have to get blood, that the blood bank screens it very thoroughly and they make sure it is compatible w/ your blood type. Hope this helps you a little.
Take care and good luck to you.
Best wishes,
Kristy

I agree!
based on my current levels, which I know aren't much higher then what they were in December, in your opinon do you think my chances are good for needing an infusion like the doctor does.

They are going to try and do an LAVH but he said there is a chance he will have to switch to a TAH because of my scar tissue

I hope it ends up being LAVH. Sometimes Docs have to say it may turn into a TAH just to cover themselves. Could be a very small chance, but they HAVE to warn you ahead of time. There is a small chance I may have a TAH, this will be my 5th abd surgery. They don't know until they get in there.
Take good care!!!!
