gyne finally agreed on a TVH!

Hey everyone, I just thought I'd let you all know that my gyne decided to do the TVH instead of the TAH (thank goodness). My question is if it causes and vaginal pain afterwards? And is there more bleeding? I would really appreciate hearing from someone who has had a TVH and for them to share their experience with me so I know what to expect. Thanks so much ladies, you all are awesome!

gyne finally agreed on a TVH!

Hi!

You sound relieved to have a TVH instead of a TAH. I had a TVH and I didn't experience any vaginal pain. I did feel a little swollen, but it wasn't painful or uncomfortable and it didn't bother me. The pain I had was when I woke up in recovery and for me it was like bad menstrual cramps. Pain meds took care of that.

As for bleeding, I hardly had any. Just a couple of spots the day of surgery and then nothing. I kept waiting for some sort of bleeding/discharge when my stitches began to dissolve, but it never came. Some ladies do bleed and some don't. I was just one of the ones who didn't. My doctor told me that if I did have bleeding/discharge, it could last up to 6 weeks and it shouldn't be like a period.

One thing to remember is that as you begin to feel better, you are still healing from a major surgery and should still follow your doctor's instructions. It was hard for me because I didn't have an external incision to 'remind' me.

I wish you the best with your upcoming surgery and I hope everything goes well! Take care of yourself!

gyne finally agreed on a TVH!

Wow, Ive been having so many "issues" trying to deal with the fact that my doctor wants to do a TVH and for some ODD reason I feel better with having a TAH...cant explain it--chalking it up to gut instinct..who knows. So, how it stands now is on the 18th of Jan I am having a TVH because the doc feels its the best option for me. Me, im still having issues with it LOL I wish you the best of luck! My thoughts and prayers will be with you.

gyne finally agreed on a TVH!

I just had a total TVH on Monday with lapcroscopic assist. Also a TVT. The advantage is that the pain healing and pain is so much less! Believe me, I am the world's biggest whimp and I don't do pain well at all!! Painwise, the TVH has been a breeze!

I also woke up almost pain free. In the hospital, they had me on a morphine pump, but I never used it. Honest and truly; in fact, I asked to have it removed and requested minor pain medication. You won't do that with TAH! They gave me Percoset and even that was not necessary. Since being home I have only taken Advil for pain which is more like bad menstrual cramps or just a general weird feeling I can't quite explain. More like this "rearranging" feeling or something. Also infection is less likely. I also was up and sitting in a chair just a couple hours after surgery and took a walk down the hall that evening. I went home about 24 hours after surgery. Hospital stays are about 1-2 days for TVH (depending on your doctor). You also can do things a lot sooner like climb stairs (slowly and one step at a time, but you can do a small amount of stairs right away), etc. No lifting, etc. just like in any hyster; but, things go a WHOLE lot smoother and quicker!

MB1970, do you think it is because you feel they might not be able to "see" everything or move about as well? That was my concern. I was kind of afraid they would miss something. But in fact, I had one complication that shows how well they can do that. 30 years ago I had my right ovary removed. Due to that surgery the scar tissue had built up so that it had actually fused my bowl and uterus. My doctor had to literally disect that off and was so bad I was in surgery for 4 1/2 hours. I meant it to just show you that even complicated issues can be seen and managed even under TVH conditions. The key is to be sure you have surgeon who is skilled at the process.

lilone04, I don't have any vaginal pain at all. I do have some bleeding, just at the end of a period and some discharge; but so light it only requires a pantyliner and not a full pad.

My only problem I'm having is that during the TVT the bladder was punctured (which is very common -- almost a gimme) and I have to wear a catheter for a week. I've got some irritation from it even though I'm keeping it clean.

I had a TVH on 10/18/04 and it went very well. I did not have any pelvic/vaginal pain after surgery. I had very minimal bleeding after surgery, very, very light and only lasted for a couple of days. Good luck!
