Possibly nerve damage?
Ive posted about waking up with a portion of my left thigh being numb..well now not only is a portion still numb but it hurts. The skin on my left thigh around the numb area is super sensitive. It hurts if my clothes even rub on it. Its bothering me more than my hysterectomy itself. I went to the hospital the other night & its not a blood clot. The doctor said maybe a pulled muscle (i know thats not it) or torn tendons?? I think its nerves..what do yall think?

Re: Possibly nerve damage?
Hi NicholeRenee...I actually have this problem, but on my lower abdomen. It is not only numb but also very very sensitive to the touch. I have had this since my hysterectomy on the 5th but it is getting better. Now as far as it being on the thigh..my Mother had that when she had a a pinched nerve in her back. I know that sounds weird but I guess those nerves are connected in some way..the back and the thigh. My ob said that the feeling on my stomach is yes indeed nerve damage. Hope that gives you some insite. My doc said and it has gotten better.

Re: Possibly nerve damage?
I wish you the best of luck. It is strange what things surgery can cause. I have a pinched nerve in my neck and they think that it is from the position I was in during surgery. Strange! I hope they can give you some answers. It does drive ya crazy, but you are still very very early in your recovery. I had mine back on April 5th and the nerve weirdness in my lower abdominal is just starting to subside. Take care of you. This is a great place to see where others are going through the same things.
Wishing you the best.

Re: Possibly nerve damage?
Hi....I'm having the same problems with my left thigh...small patch area that feels like it's asleep and the area around it feels super sensitive. I talked with my doctor about it....also had the DaVinci. He claims that the tools that they use in the area of the left side during the surgery can sometimes put pressure on the major nerve that runs down the left side of the body and cause temporary damage. I was told that it could take several months to get the feeling back. I too don't like the way it feels and am hoping to get the feeling back soon. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to you all.

Re: Possibly nerve damage?
Hi,
Add me to the list. A few days after my surgery, I noticed a numbness and sensitivity to the small part of my thighs in the groin area. Now the whole inner pad part of both thighs from the groin down more than halfway to my knees feels just like a bad sunburn (but the skin is perfectly normal). They are sensitive to any fabric that touches them from PJs to loose, smooth slacks. The doc's PA said it was due to "temporary" nerve damage caused by the position during surgery but couldn't say how long it would take to go away -- could be months or more.
The burning feeling is worst when I'm trying to go to sleep, so I wondered if I could fool the nerves by applying Noxema to create a cooling feeling on top of the burning. It works! I haven't tried it during the day because I think it would create more "drag" on the clothing.
Hope this helps some of you.

Re: Possibly nerve damage?
Hi there,
Add me too!....I've got numbness down my right thigh.....went to the docs yesterday and he said its either nerve trauma, in which case it will probably return to normal within a few months or its nerve damage, in which is case it probably wont return to normal....
He said its just a waiting game!......great!....I am trying to stay positive but its just getting me down as I feel I went into hospital to sort one problem out and have ended up with another problem!....
fingers crossed that we all recover fully!.....

Re: Possibly nerve damage?
Yes...thats it!
My lower left inner leg was completely knumb and it hurt when anything touched it at night when trying to sleep. In the day it was ok when I walked around, it wasnt bad.
So today, its all ok and normal.
I asked here, on this site and noone really knew...my dr checked and no clot possible but couldnt explain why...i thought perhaps i was strapped in on the table and the dr said no.
So I was upset but i noticed over time it got better and now today Im fine.
I think once you are ok to move normally, the nerve will calm down and revert back to normal. Only speaking of my experience and offer some comfort!
Take care!

Re: Possibly nerve damage?
I've been moving normally from day 1, 3 weeks ago. On Tuesday, I "walked" (not allowed to "hike") for an hour and a half in the woods. Today I spoke with my surgeon's PA who said it sounds like nerve pain and recommended a 1 week course of steroids. Unfortunately, I cannot tolerate steroids because I have Type 1 diabetes and steroids would cause my glucose levels to shoot up and stay up for the duration.
