Went to Pre-Op, Given Some Tips
Hi ladies. Yesterday at pre-op my nurse told me a couple things to pass along. She said to get some Miralax for when I get home and to take a spoonful a day until things get moving again. I had gotten some DulcoLax stool softener, but she said Miralax is more gentle. I'm all about gentle when it comes to that! 😊
She also said to ask for a stool softener and gas medicine the morning after surgery, and every morning I'm in the hospital. Check.
The most important thing she mentioned was to HYDRATE HYDRATE HYDRATE the day before surgery! This helps with metabolizing all of the medicine and reduces the risk of post surgery nausea. I did that with my surgery in August and she was right- I wasn't sick at all.
These are all things you may already know and are listed somewhere else on the forums, but it never hurts to post it again in case someone needs it. 😊
Hope you all have a happy Friday!!

Re: Went to Pre-Op, Given Some Tips
For the hospital, take a backscratcher!! I read that suggestion and decided to go along with it. Sure glad I did! I had these bootie type things on my legs that helped with circulation. Kind of like a cast. Boy did I have to scratch at times. Plus it came in handy as an extra arm to reach for things.
My hospital provided a very large sippy cup and footies. But you may want to take these with you as most hospitals do provide these items.
I would say take some magazines or a book but I was too busy dozing in and out to be bothered. But everyone is different.
Take your cellphone and charger with you also!
And don't be afraid to tell any hospital staff any of your concerns. I kept feeling nauseaus after the surgery. They realized that the dosage of the pain medicine was just too strong. Once they cut back on it, I was fine.
Wishing you well!
