back pain 2 weeks after hysterectomy

Hi, I had a total abdominal hysterectomy on 2/21. Yesterday and today I have really bad back pain. On the right side and its middle to lower back. Anyone else have this? I don't have a fever and I was feeling pretty good up until this.

I had the same as you the day before you and my back has been in a dreadful state for the last week. I think it's the way we are holding ourselves, trying to compensate for the pain we have around the abdominal incision. I have tried using more pillows under my back to give it more support when I'm sleeping, it helps a little. Maybe another sister can give us more advice. Sending lots of hugs your way xx

Yes, I had this, and I too believe it's our backs compensating for the weakened abs, and as we're sitting upright or walking more we're using those muscles. You can read more here at Back Pain After Hysterectomy.

I found that reclining with strategically placed pillows was better than either sitting or lying down during the day, and a travel pillow or two and night tucked in and around made things more comfortable. Check your posture when you are sitting or standing to make sure you're not doing the hyster-hunch, and continue to take rest breaks. Also... get acquainted with a heating pad or a warm compress like a heat-able Bed Buddy and use it when reclining.
