INTENSE Vaginal Itch

I am 6 months post-op. In the last week, I have begun and continuously experienced the most intense vaginal itch ever. At first, I thought it was a yeast infection, but when I called my Oncologist Gyn's office, I was told the pap I had about 5 days earlier came back normal. I was told to drink plenty of water. A day later, I was not satisfied with that response so I went to see my pre-op GYN. She explained to me about losing the estrogen severly dries me. Because of the endo cancer, I cannot take any kind of estrogen. She prescribed me a tube of Hydrocortisone cream and suggested either vaseline or ky jelly. The hydro works for about an hour, the ky doesn't work at all, vaseline makes me itch more. I am now trying A&D ointment which also works for about an hour.

Does anyone have anything that can work? Will this be an ongoing problem? What do I do?

Re: INTENSE Vaginal Itch

I am just about at 6 weeks post op and have the same problem. I kept my ovaries, but I think they are not working for some reason.

I am sooooo itchy down there it is driving me crazy! the only thing that seems to help is zinc cream (penaten or other diaper cream brand). It really stops the itch and the irritation. I reapply it as often as needed, usually a few times a day. I have stopped using fabric softener as well as using Tide free laundry detergent in the hopes it may help as well - probably can't hurt either. I am showering twice a day just to keep the irritation at bay.

I have never had a yeast infection and from the sounds of this i don't have one now. I don't have "cottage cheese" discharge and no odor.

I hope this helps! I am going to the gyno this week to see if there is something else going on and to check my hormone levels.

good luck to you!

Re: INTENSE Vaginal Itch

Hi SandyLynn:

I am happy to announce that I have my cure. Thanks to hystersister poster Lisa annec. In her post back in 2007, she stated what helped her was the Weleda brand Calendula Baby Cream. This afternoon, I hopped on the bus and went to a health food store and bought the cream and the calendula soap. Once I reached home, I cleansed with the soap and applied the cream. It's been 7 hours and 3 bathroom visits since application and I have not itched since. In addition, I have not reapplied the cream. I am so freaking happy. Cannot wait to call my GYN to tell her about it.

I will keep your suggestion as a back up plan in case I ever need reinforcement.

Thanks

Re: INTENSE Vaginal Itch

I have heard if you wash that area with Baby Phisoderm you will not have the itch or the dryness. It is hard to find and sometimes you have to ask the pharmacy to special order it.

good luck
