Pain in lower ab 18 days post hysterectomy
I am 18 days post op and was doing really good the last 4-5 days. I started getting back to doing normal, but limited, activities after my doc told me things looked good at 2-week check up (and took off my remains of steri-strips). I have had a bad cough for a couple weeks. I went to regular doc and he said lungs were clear, so likely a virus. Last night I coughed while standing up (without my binder or a pillow) and got instant pain. Now I am sneezing and coughing and it kills worse than it did first 2 weeks... in lower abs. And the pain still lingers even when I am lying down not coughing. Did I over do it? Tear a muscle or incision? Or have a hernia? Just laying low now and back on pain pills I had been off of and hoping it goes away. I planned to go back to work in another week.

Pain in lower ab 18 days post hysterectomy
and oh I feel ya! My third morning I had a vicious sneeze while lying in bed, couldn't grab my tummy pillow in time. It sent me through the roof, and I too thought "HERNIA!"
It helps to understand healing. Healing is not a straight line with scar tissue getting stronger. Instead, it comes in stages, with earlier scar tissue dissolving as it's replaced by newer scar tissue. We're likely to feel tugs, twinges and zingers when the older tissue is dissolving.
If you tore something, there's a chance you'd have other signs like bleeding or a bulge (for a hernia), maybe a warm or extra tender spot. Monitor for additional symptoms, talk to your doc about taking cold meds, try warm tea for decongesting, and grab a pillow to hold against your tummy.
Hope you feel better!
