what is this string?

I noticed the other day that i have 2 strings hanging out my belly button. what are they?
They look to be attached to the inside of me. I pulled on them and they hurt. so i know they are deffiently attached somewhere inside. Any ideas as to what they are. I had my surgery a week ago it was vaginal but with the scope through my belly button to assist. They took my cervix and uterus.

Re: what is this string?

I would think they are stitches. I had surery on the 20th and they put the scope thru my belly button. I have inside stitches and tape on the out side. I would not pull they any more. Just let them be. Show the doctor at you next appointment. Call them if you are concerned or they become uncomfortable.

Re: what is this string?

They are stitches! LOL! I remember after my glue disappeared in my belly button, I saw blue string sticking out and when I called, the nurse made me come back to the hospital (this being AFTER my 6 wk check up of course when I thought I was free and clear of visits) and when my surgeon looked at it, he laughed and said "oh...you could've snipped snipped these yourself". I wasn't laughing...I was irritated that I drove 35 minutes to get this done and it took 15 seconds.

I was wondering why in the world my internal stitches were sticking out because I thought at that point my internal stitches were pretty much gone...but I guess not.

Re: what is this string?

This too happened to me but with my surgery last year for my gallbladder removal. I had it done laprascopically and my body kind of pushed a couple internal sutures out. Of course one of mine started to get infected and would not close because of the suture sticking out! I went back to the other surgeon's office and they clipped it off real close made sure there were no more wiggling out by moving the skin around and cleaned it and sent me on my way. definitely have them cut it and take a look at it soon so it doesn't affect your healing process. I was told mine was a result of my body rejecting that type of suture. I too pulled on mine and boy did it hurt! I don't know why I did not realize it was a suture right away, guess you just don't expect it to happen.

Unluckily, that particular incision has never healed nicely like the others and it is a year later. Kind of ticked me off but what am I gonna do? LOL
It was a big discussion with my current surgeon before my TAH last week. I just had my staples removed yesterday and now I have steri tape along my 6 inch bikini incision. I think they used different sutures this time.
