Lupron

Hi Dijoi,

Yes, I did lupron. In pre-op, I did (3) months of lupron shots to shrink my fibroids enough for a less invasive hyst. Lupron causes temporary chemical menopause. I had hot flashes, night sweats and I lost interest in sex for awhile.

Lupron is not for every Hyster Sister and in my case, I am glad on did the shots since lupron got me to my LSH.

Best wishes,

Mary

Lupron

Hi.
I will be starting on Lupron in December to get ready for a TAH in April (not scheduled yet, but looking toward April '06).
The menopause stuff doesn't worry me and who wants sex when everything hurts "down there" anyway? But I have heard/read that it is kind of expensive. Still need to pin the gyn. down on a price per shot and if insurance covers it fully....?
Also have read that 6 months is the maximum for being on it.
Most of the sisters on this site that have had the shots say that they are thankful that they had them, so I am going to go with the majority and go for it - but read up on Lupron so you're as informed as possible.
Good luck to you.

I had 1 lupron depot shot on Oct 6, 2005 and after I took it I went home and got online and started reading about it, well it scared me to death, so I desided since I had to have a hysterectomy anyways there was know use in me to take anymore. So my Dr, set the date for the hyster for Oct 31, I didnt have to many side effects gained 20 lbs, head aches, weak and tierd, Well I had my hyster on the 31st and about 3 or 4 days later I started having leaky breasts, my Dr, said that the hyster shouldnt have caused that, but it could be the shot,so I got on here and asked if anyone had done this and someone said that it could be hormonal and something about pitutary glands trouble. I am terified, I dont know whats wrong now, if I was you and I alrady had kids and was going to have the hyster anyways, I wouldnt have the shot, I only took one and its a month and a half later and still having side effects. Im not sure its from the shot, but its enough to scare me. Good Luck.

Hi

Quite a few Sisters have been on Lupron and, if you do a search, you'll find a number of posts.

I was on it for 3 months, to try to shrink an enormous fibroid and make surgery 'safer'. It certainly did the trick. Yes, Lupron does have side-effects as it brings on a temporary and artificial menopause. I experienced hot flashes, dry skin and joint pain. But none of it was bad enough to stop me getting on with my life.

Like anything, good news is no news and you'll only ever mostly find the bad news, if you research it online.

Good luck!
