May need to reschedule surgery (children mentioned)

I am scheduled to have a vaginal hysterectomy on Wednesday but I have been on the phone with my sister-in-law most of the evening. She is currently 33weeks pregnant and feeling reduced movement tonight. She is headed in to get checked now but I keep thinking of something happens I need to be there for them and not recovering myself. My husband is telling me I am ridiculous for even considering rescheduling. The last six weeks I have been miserable.

I guess just needed to get this off my chest.

You need to take care of yourself too, your health is #1 to your family, and I know it's hard but you need to put yourself first and learn to be a little selfish right now.

Re: May need to reschedule surgery (children mentioned)

My husband is saying I need to be selfish and I know my sister-in-law wouldn't want me to reschedule it. I just know I felt both after a loss and when my son was in the NICU. I would want someone I could say anything to and she could do that to me.

Re: May need to reschedule surgery (children mentioned)

I understand, and can't tell you what to do, but I can tell you that in my experience there is always something going on, and I have a very big family and we all count in each other for support. But they all understood when it came to it that I couldn't be there for them, even though I wanted to. And I felt bad about it too, but I knew that I needed to take the time for me!! Good luck, I am sure whatever you choose will be a good decision.

Re: May need to reschedule surgery (children mentioned)

I pray all is ok for your sister-in-law and her baby, but realistically there is not much you could do in the condition you're in. Firstly, things might be just fine. Is this her first child? Sometimes the baby can get into a position where you just don't feel the kicks as strongly, and so she might call you soon and say everything is just fine. Ultimately it is up to you, but if playing the "what if" game, what if all is well and you have the surgery, by the time the baby is born (if she goes to the typical 40 weeks) you'll be ready and healed enough to hold your niece/nephew!

It's not selfish to take care of your health. It's the best thing you can do for everyone so that you can be better enough to be there for them.

Re: May need to reschedule surgery (children mentioned)

It is her first. She has been trying for a baby for ten years. We have gotten super close as she is married to my husbands twin. The baby did begin moving and they ran some tests and everything looks ok. She is going to call the dr tomorrow and see what he says. We share a doctor who is amazing.

I feel better now. We are now joking that the baby was just wanting to distract auntie.
