Quivering in uterus. IUD issue?

On Monday while meeting with someone I suddenly noticed a quivering happening in my cervix area...about 3 or 4 times per minute. It didn't hurt, but it sure was weird! I couldn't tell where exactly it was...uterus? from ovary down to cervix? It was indistinct. Have never even heard of such a thing! So I called my GYN on Tuesday morning ~ especially as I was then getting pain as well, like serious PMS, and they said it could be that my Mirena IUD is trying to come out.

She wants to do an ultrasound, which is scheduled for Tuesday morning. (She would like to have done it right away but had a number of women in labour today.) She said it's possible that this is partly due to me having a low uterus (mild prolapse). Yet this didn't happen the last time I had the Mirena IUD in. So we'll see.

I wonder whether, after it's out, my doc will not want to reinsert it, given this issue. I'm 52, and only have the Mirena IUD to keep my uterine lining thin so that the polyps that tend to form there get dissolved, also maybe my fibroids won't grow so fast.

Without it, I'm more in the cue for a hyst. =Sigh.= Wait until she hears that I've had a dribbly bladder this week too. Blah. I was just reading that mild prolapse can happen when a woman is caucasian, has had a number of large babies, and is old enough that her estrogen is dropping off. That's me!

My doc is young and is WONDERFUL, but once she did say that had I done my kegels this might not have happened. I DID do my kegels...but I had 5 babes, 4 large including two over 10 lbs...and I'm only 5 ft tall.

Have you ever had (or even heard of) a quivering...fassiculation...like this? The pain subsided, and even the quivering has mostly subsided. There is still a heaviness, and my bladder is a little sensitive, but I feel very healthy otherwise.

I'd be grateful for any words of wisdom and thoughts on questions to ask on Tuesday!!

Hi Kythe
I can't imagine what the quivering feels like. I had the mirena IUD inserted twice. Both times it expelled itself, accompanied by severe cramping, (my problem being a large uterus). I doubt your doctor would attempt to re-insert it; once it is out, it is no longer sterile.
I hope your body manages to hold onto it.

Hi woodstock2

Oh, I didn't mean to give the impression that I thought my doc would insert the SAME Mirena IUD. I just meant a Mirena IUD at all. Like you, I have had the procedure twice, as the first had to be removed for surgery (myomectomy) and the second was inserted after I healed from that.
I am keenly interested, though, that you say yours have come out on their own [my first stayed in just fine] but you never have felt this odd quivering. Hmmm. I wonder what it could be. I hope someone who has felt something like this comes by to shed some light on it soon!
Either way, I suppose I'll learn more after Tuesday's ultrasound.

Thanks so much for posting!!

Hi Kythe
I wonder if the quivering was the mirena moving out of position. As I said all I had was the cramping, and that was severe, I recall the 1st one was expelled in a terrible flood of blood. Once out the cramping stopped immediately.
I hope all goes well on Tuesday

Quivering was not IUD related, but...

Hallo!

Just home from seeing my doctor about that odd quivering I felt in my cervix-uterus area last week.

Turns out it's not IUD related! The IUD is fine and in place. She said it could have been a muscle spasm of the pelvic muscles.

I asked what causes that. She did an ultrasound.

Turns out I have at least 4 fibroids, and the largest (which was definitely not there in January!) is 5cm across...and right by the bladder! That explains why I sometimes have a gush of utrine when I laugh or cough! The good news is that it's pedunculated, so she could probably embolise that one.

So the plan is for me to go to the medical center for a specialised ultrasound in about a month (waiting for them to schedule the date) to see if the fibroids (especially the biggest one) have grown and how much. It that big one is growing fast, it has to go. If not, it's up to me whether I can live with it or not.

She did say given that I'm 52 she would really like to avoid doing a hysterectomy and see if we can get me all the way to menopause.

I really love this doctor! She's so gentle and reassuring. Would that all docs were!!

Stay tuned. Would love any thoughts on embolisation. Will check the resources, etc., too, of course.

Addendum...

"gush of utrine" should read "gush of urine" (but you probably figured that).

I said I'm 52, then realised I'm still 51 for four more months!
I even said to my doctor earlier in the day "I'm pushing 53."
Well, one thing is clear...I'm over 50.

Hi Kythe
Glad the IUD is still in place, sorry you have more fibroids. Hope you can avoid the hysterectomy as menopause can't be too far away for you. I don't know alot about fibroids as I didn't have any.
Regards
