Emotions are a hot mess -- is this normal, or is my HRT wrong?

Hi, y'all. I'm new here and I apologize for not doing more research before asking a question. To be honest, I expected a huge battle with doctors/insurance before I'd be able to have my surgery and instead, my doc immediately agreed to it and my insurance approved it. Everything happened so fast and I'm not sure I did enough homework on how to navigate HRT and my recovery period.

Surgery was on 11-2-16, so I'm a little under 2.5 weeks post-op. I had everything removed -- uterus, tubes, ovaries and my doc put me on 0.9 mg Premarin daily for HRT. He seemed to think HRT would be "simple," which I'll admit was a red flag, because my reading prior to surgery didn't give me the impression it would be.

My physical recovery has been phenomenal. I was up and around doing little social/fun things three days post-op (the day after I was discharged from the hospital). My incision isn't bothering me and I get achy if I don't take ibuprofen every 6-7 hours, but nothing major. Up until last night, I was taking percoset once at bedtime because I had more pain at night, but as of yesterday I'm on ibuprofen only. I've been pretty active, walking some but not like intense exercise or anything, and seeing friends. I do a little around the house (mostly getting my almost 6 year old ready for school) and I started back to work partial days this past Wednesday (I work from home and sit at a desk). I tire out more easily than usual, but I expected to be so much more uncomfortable than I am.

Emotionally, though, I'm a trainwreck. Anhedonic, weepy, depressed, and more or less wishing I were dead (not actively suicidal, I promise). My support system is good, but talking doesn't help. I've struggled with both major depression and PMDD (the latter is the reason I had the surgery), and this feels like chemical/hormonal depression but I'm not positive. Up until maybe last Saturday, I was taking the percoset in the evenings after I got home from doing whatever, and the original crash coincided with my dropping the evening dose and taking it only to sleep. I've had depression from stopping opiates before, but it's only getting worse so I'm pretty sure it's not from stopping the percs now.

tl;dr: Is it expected/normal for me to be to be crushingly depressed about 2.5 weeks post-op? How do I know if my HRT needs to be adjusted and can anyone share stories about how they could tell it was off, etc?
