Post op sleep issues - 4 days after surgery

Hi, I had a hysterectomy (uterus, cervix removed) on 2/17 and have trouble sleeping at night. My upper back gets really sore from being on it maybe? I'm lying on bed, on my back, pillow under knees and pillow under head. Any suggestions for getting more comfy? During I'm on the recliner and it's ok then. Otherwise I feel really good - just sore tummy.
Thanks,
Julie

Sorry to hear! I think you are doing what you can ... Did you let your doctor know? Maybe He/she can help. Good luck!

Re: Post op sleep issues - 4 days after surgery

I'm having some sleep issues. Get to sleep, but don't always stay asleep. I plug in my iPod and lay in bed and wait to drift off to sleep again. Seems to be working because I'm on different spots on my iPod.

I think the sleep thing takes time to regulate.

I slept in the recliner for 5 weeks! Day and night. It took about that long for my sleep patterns to get straightened out too.

I've been in the recliner day/night since my surgery. My lower back started hurting (I thought from recliner position), so I laid in bed last night. Needless to say, I'll be back to my recliner - the bed was worse. I keep a pillow under my knees in recliner. Good luck to you

Re: Post op sleep issues - 4 days after surgery

I had my surgery on January 11, 2011. I had to sleep on my back for about 4 weeks, with a pillow under my head and knees. About the fifth week, I was able to sleep on my side, but I had this weird feeling that all my organs were shiftng to the side I laid on. It may help to still place a pillow between your knees. I also experienced the sleepless nights but it will past and you will be able to get more sleep. These are things my doctor did not share with me, but thank God for this website. It has really been a support for me and to know that I am not alone in my experiences.

Re: Post op sleep issues - 4 days after surgery

I'm post op day 5 since home I've been having trouble sleeping. I think it's because I can't adjust the bed and have trouble turning. The other issue of course is I still have a catheter and sometimes it won't drain depending on my position. Pain is the next, I find during the day if I take my pain med every 4 hours I'm comfortable but when I go to sleep I will sleep 5 to 6 hours then wake up miserable and have trouble sleeping any longer after that. Tonight I am going to try setting my alarm and take it at 4 hours to see if maybe it will keep me comfortable enough to sleep 8 hours. Wish me luck and I'll continue to look back at others pointers. Sweet dreams all.
