TAH How long on lifting weight restriction after hysterectomy?

I'm at 3 1/2 months now. At my 6 week check up my doc said no lifting more than 20 lbs, but she never said for how long. I read some where it was forever, has anyone ever heard of that? If so do you know why?

I don't think its forever,but I had the same op so I'm interested to see what the vote is on this!

I have my six week doctors app in three days and will ask her.

I've told my family the vacuuming restriction is for life!

I have heard at least one other sister say that her doctor told her she had a 20-lb lifting restriction for life. I don't remember the details of the situation, though. Certainly *if* you had a lot of extra prolapse repair work done, you have to be much more careful for the rest of your life.

I did not have or need extra repair work. My own doctor told me I was free to lift 30-40 lb boxes at work - I asked about this weight range specifically - after six weeks. In the past eight months, I've lifted boxes, hauled backpacks full of groceries home from the supermarket on foot, helped friends move furniture and shovelled snow, all without ill effect.

I haven't tried lifting more than *50* lbs, though, because my knees won't take that.

I go on Tuesday,I will ask... Hopefully that's not true, my poor dog needs a bath! I am only one who can give it, he is 70lbs

My doc told me that after six weeks, I could start lifting heavier objects but to start off *slowly and gradually work into it.*

I would respectfully suggest that trying to lift a 70-lb dog the day after your limits are cleared is not a good idea if you haven't been lifting more than 10 lbs since your surgery.

What kind of dog is it, anyway? I'm used to retrievers and with them, it's like, "Hey buddy, water! Splash, splash!" and the dog comes running and jumps into the tub!

I am a sister who has a 15lb. lifting max for life. The reason is to prevent a prolapse and possible hernia even though my major port was meshed. I have adjusted. I also have never resumed vacuuming on carpet. Only floors.

Mine was a 10 pound restriction for 6 weeks...
