Go back to work? Is it too soon?

hello! I had LAVH on March 1st and was wondering if it was too soon to return to work on March 14th? I have read several posts that suggested it may be too soon. What do you think? Is 13 days post op too soon to return?

Re: Go back to work? Is it too soon?

Initial reaction is "Yes, it's too early". That said, I don't know how you feel. I had a TAH and have been off 6 weeks and am only now starting to think about returning to work.

There's various thing to consider too. What kind of job is it? how long are your work days/shifts? Stuff like that. Remember that although the external part of the surgery may be healing, there's a whole lot going on inside as well, probably for a lot longer.

A little longer now will help you heal properly the first time. You really don't want to go back to work, do yourself some mischief, and then be off for another few weeks.

I'd pace yourself, but that's just my thoughts!!

Take care

Re: Go back to work? Is it too soon?

Thank you for your response. I am the manager for a very busy wellness center (Ha! imagine that!) It is very difficult for me to feel unproductive but it would not be wise to do too much and have a set back. I think I will take another week off. Thanks for helping me think through this decision. You would think it would be a no brainer but sometimes it helps to sound off someone else! thanks!

as in a fitness wellness or mental wellness? I would say you need more time. If you have it.. take it!

Re: Go back to work? Is it too soon?

I had LAVH on March 2nd and will be returning to work on the 21st, so I'm right there with you. I feel fantastic. In fact, I'm getting gently teased by all my aunts who went back to work within 2 weeks after their surgeries. I knew I didn't want to screw anything up, so after coming home the day after my surgery, I've done practically nothing but lie on the couch like my surgeon told me. I've had no pain, fatigue, gas, bowel issues, etc., since coming home and stopped my pain meds after 5 days.

Re: Go back to work? Is it too soon?

I would wait. I felt great after my surgery. Had help the first 4 days nut went back to my normal work schedule at day 5... I stay at home with my 2 and 3 year old during the week and I'm a photographer on weekends.

It cut me off... anyway, I am paying 4 months post op. Adhesions, major pain, having surgery on the 4th!

Re: Go back to work? Is it too soon?

I went back at 2 weeks with Dr's blessing, but I sit at a desk all day, am in an office that allows sweats for the job, have a flexible schedule, & do the same thing I was doing while sitting at home not drawing a paycheck.

Re: Go back to work? Is it too soon?

well, my staff would be supportive of me, but that place just gets so crazy that I couldn't just sit in my office and not jump in! I better stay away or I'll get sucked into the madness! I am very fortunate that I don't have to take pain meds at this point and I am not having any complications either.

Re: Go back to work? Is it too soon?

had my LAVH on the 1st and I am going back to work on the 14th with the blessing of my doctor. I too have a job were I can wear sweats to work, plus I can come in and leave when I like. I plan on working a few hours a day next week and then getting plenty of rest when I get home.
I know it is a tough decision. Do what feels right and listen to your body.
Good luck to you.
