5 weeks post op - does the swelling ever go away?

Hi all,
I had TAH/BSO on May 3rd, so 5 weeks post-op.
I do have days where body is so exhausted, but sleep
doesn't want to come easily(during the day).
Today started having pain at incision, mostly from sitting
for long periods of time, seems to feel better when I walk
around. It is nice to know I'm not alone in what I am going
through.
This site is great, and have given a friend of mine this
website. She is scheduled in July for her hysterectomy, but
she wanted to get an idea as to what to expect.

5 weeks post op - does the swelling ever go away?

Hi. Had my TAH/BSO 5/4/05. Not much pains at this point, but I sure do swell! I also have the belly slopping over my incision. Whats the final verdict - will it ever go away or will we always have something hanging over our incision spots? By the way, got my SWELLY BELLY BAND in the mail today! It's really neat - made just the shape I need for cooling off my incision area. My only dissapointment was that I hoped it would be bright pink and have the Hystersisters logo on it. Its a soft violet, and covers that lower belly area perfectly.

swelly belly

I can still relate to swelly belly at 6 wks. post-op. My first thought upon waking up after surgery was "my stomach feels flat" (they removed everything & I immediately sensed the "void"). That changed after I got on my feet & started moving around the next day! So activity is part of what causes swelly belly, but it's important to move around to keep from getting a blood clot. I think the key is getting rest as needed & listening to our bodies. I tend to overdo, but I am doing great. I look at my body & see it as a temporary condition.....this too shall pass!
