Sleep Issues

Ever since I came home from the hospital I have had problems getting to sleep and staying asleep. For the first couple weeks I didn't worry about it much figuring that it was because of the surgery. At this point I am 4 weeks post op...and the problem is only getting worse. Ever since I got on the right combination of meds for my bipolar I got to a point where I was able to at least fall asleep...though I have never slept good...everytime I have continuous dreams/nightmares...my mind never seems to rest. Over the years I got used to this...and have learned to just deal with it. But now...since my surgery...I have alot of problems falling asleep...and once I finally go I wake up several times a night...usually sweating I guess from hot flashes...and then have a horrible time going back to sleep. Anyone else having this problem? I can't...dont want to...take sleeping pills...because I dont trust myself with them. I've tried ambien...among others...and they cause me to hallucinate and feel horrible. I dont trust having them in the house because I am known to do bad things wiht them which has caused me to be hospitalized in the past.

Sleep Issues

I've been having sleeping problems too. Here is the link to the thread for my question. The ladies here did give me a few ideas to try that aren't sleeping pills. I hope you can get something to work for you. Last night I took 10mg of Ambien instead of 5mg (with doctor approval) and I slept a little better. But I had trouble getting to sleep and still woke up three times in the middle of the night. I hoping tonight will be the night I sleep clear through!

Sleep Issues

I have had sleep problems for many years of my adult life, I simply cannot sleep soundly through the night and I dealt with some terrible insomnia after my surgery. I am 6 weeks post-op this week and it has gotten better. The 4th and 5th weeks were the worst. When it was bad enough, I take melatonin. It helps me feel sleepier in the night when I do awaken so I can go back to sleep easier. I don't use it all the time, but I probably should, it can't hurt. I use lavendar oil on my pillows to help me relax, which I find to be very helpful. If you try it, be sure to invest in a good oil as there are lots of poor quality ones out there. Hardest of all is to try and not get to worked up about it as the stress causes it to be worse. I know that is easier said than done, though.

Sleep Issues

My TAH was 8/17 and I haven't slept well since the surgery, and it's getting worse. At first it would average 2:30 a.m. before I'd fall asleep. Last night I didn't sleep a wink...didn't fall asleep until after 7 a.m. this morning. Then I slept until 1 p,m., which I know doesn't help. I almost think I've got my days and nights mixed up, but pre-surgery it would be nothing for me to sleep all night and still sleep in (on a non-work day) to 11 am. I think this is causing me to have some depression as well. Overall I'm not too impressed with how I'm coming along. I thought I'd feel better than I do this far out from surgery and not sleeping isn't helping.

Me Too!!

My surgery date wasn't far from your date. I am still not sleeping more than four hours at a time. Boy is it lonely in the middle of the night and what boring television in the middle of the night!! No more infomercials please! I'm like you and do not want to take anything to sleep. I am working 10-12 hour days and come home tired but can't sleep even when I lie down. What I am hoping for is that I can wait it out three months when maybe my body will be back to "normal". If there is such a thing. And also I am not stressing about not sleeping normal, worrying could make the situation worse. Meanwhile old movies and the history channel are my buddies in the middle of the night. Just ride with the tide, you'll get back to yourself soon.
