Surgery delayed - so upset!
I am so upset. My surgery was supposed to be tomorrow, Feb 20. I had squared everything away at my office for my long absence. My sister had dropped her own life and flown here from another state to be with me. I've been waiting since Nov. for this surgery to happen. Well, mid-day today I got a call from the doctor's office that he has had some sort of personal emergency and my surgery had to be cancelled. I was speechless and just so upset. I have two surgeons to do the hyster and bladder sling, and I begged to just let the one do it all. Apparently for "ethical" reasons this would not be appropriate. I personally don't care about their ethics - what about my own life and all the inconvenience to me? I have turned myself upside down to be able to walk out of my office, and now this. If there is a significant delay it is going to be a situation that I cannot "work around" at my job and I'll have to delay surgery for months. Okay, I'm just venting here, I'm sorry, but I had to cry a little on everyone's shoulders. I have found so very much comfortable in this site and among all of you ladies, so I know you'll forgive me. The two surgeons' offices called me several times, so sorry, and are promising they will do everything possible to work this out for me the best they can. I HOPE the surgery will end up being next week....pray for me ladies! They are supposed to call me tomorrow morning with some news.
I am blessed with so many friends and family who promised to pray for me tomorrow and I lamented to a friend that all those prayers would be on the WRONG day - she pointed out to me very wisely that God knows and will just save those prayers! (-:
To finish on a laugh - I had just finished drinking the citrate of magnesium (laxative) to prepare for tomorrow - and that's when the doctor's office called! Isn't that a hoot!?
Well, thanks for giving me a place to vent!!! What would I do without my hystersisters??
Luv to all, Dee Doaney

Oh Delfino s to you. Vent all you want! My surgery was delayed also for different reasons (had abnormal EKG at pre op), I had to have more tests - everything OK, and surgery took place a week and a half later. Fortunately I found out the delay BEFORE I started drinking my lovely GoLytely cocktails. (close call, tho ). I hope everything gets worked out for you soon and everything goes smoothly for your surgery and recovery. s

Surgery delayed - so upset!
I'm so sorry this happened to you. Like you, I scheduled my surgery about 3 months in advance and hung on every week. I worried about everything from insurance approval to my health to possibility of a scheduling conflict with doctor, etc. You get yourself so psyched up emotionally and mentally to have this done, that it's got to be a huge letdown for you now.
I hope you get some good news tomorrow that the surgery will go forth next week. Good luck and let us know how it goes!
P.S.: What an extra bummer that you'd already done the bowel prep! Do you think he'll waive that requirement next time since you did your "homework" in advance? LOL...I'm glad you were able to find at least some humor in your situation. That's a healthy approach. Take care

Surgery delayed - so upset!
I just got my new schedule. Been sitting here (in my jammies) since morning. Afraid to get in the shower in case the phone rang. They finally called me 1:30 p.m. my time.
Anyway, the new date and time are 2/27, next Friday, at 1:30.
I am so thankful they bent over backwards to get it next week. I know one of the doctors only does his surgeries on Fridays, so I had visions of it being put off a month away or something, and that would be something I'd really have to think about - whether I should delay until summer - because of a big project at work I am responsible for in May. Yet...not sure I could stand to wait either.
For the one doctor (with the emergency and reason for the postponement) they had to bump another patient's surgery to make room for me. I do feel bad (just a little, not much! ha ha) about the other patient but the scheduler said the other was minor surgery, unlike mine, and no big deal. I do appreciate that other patient's sacrifice. The other doctor, it turns out 2/27 was his day off and his scheduler had to BEG him to do me anyway. I am so thankful to both him and her. I might send them flowers or candy, think?
Okay, appreciate everyone's support, you were there for me when I needed you. Just wanted to let you know. Now I can go have that shower!! (-:

Dear Dee,
I'm awfully sorry that your surgery had to be postponed, but glad that they were able to re-schedule so quickly. Can your sister stay an extra week? I sure hope so, since you had mentioned that you don't have any family living close to you.
That's too bad about already taking your laxative - I hope it wasn't too bad. The doctors should be extra nice to you since you have to do it again.
Enjoy your sister's visit, and I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers for a successful and uneventful surgery and recovery on the 27th.

Hey there!
I'm having my surgery on the 27th also.... at 7:30 that morning. I know you were very disappointed when they called to cancel .... I can only imagine what I would have done... I'm so anxious for this surgery.
Good luck and take care!!!
