How long?

I am new to this site, but it has helped me so much. I am scheduled for a Complete Hystorectomy on May 12th. I am scared and the more I think about it, the worse off I get. How do you come up with exact dates on how you're going to feel? I have someone coming to stay, but they don't want to be here very long. They want me to tell them how long I'll need help! How can I do that? I think it just adds more stress! My husband will be here during the evenings, but she is suppose to be here to help out during the day. How long after the surgery do you usually need help?

...are your kids in school? I would recommend AT LEAST a week with someone there with you 24/7. I didn't feel like doing ANYTHING (including simple things like making school lunches!) that first week. Plus, my kids were home on Spring Break so I was so thankful to have hubby with me so he could keep them busy so I could SLEEP! He went back to work on week two, but then the kids were in school, and dh still came home early.

It's hard to say. It depends on your age and health prior and what you have done during your surgery. My friend had a bladder repair and is having a harder time with recovery than I did with just a TAH. I was taking care of myself as soon as I got home from the castle with no problems. I did not take care of my children for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks, I started to gradually get back into the swing of family life. I am 36 and was in great shape before my surgery.
