Is this normal?

Hello ladies, just have a few questions. I bled the first 3 days after surgery but it has stopped and not returned. will the bleeding come back, or is it gone?? Also I have read a lot about swelly belly. The only area that is swollen is right above the incision and under, I had the abdominal cut. It is hard and swollen there but nowhere else, will the rest of the belly start swelling later? and lastly, this morning while going to the bathroom, I noticed number 2 was very green, has anyone else had this?? My husband said it must be something I ate but all I ate yesterday was soup, not an alien, lol. Just wondering if I should be concerned about this or not. Thanks for any insight, I really appreciate it, Love and hugs to you all!!

Re: Is this normal?????

Hi alecia777, I am not sure if I can answer all your questions but I will try

it is hard to say if the bleeding will come back or not, if it does it may be light spotting depending on how you heal. If you end up bleeding lots enough to soak a pad in an hour go to er immediately. If it is a concern to you call your dr's office always.

The swelly belly you may not get at all but you could it may come and go as you get more mobile. I also had a TAH with a vertical incision at first no swelly belly was actully smaller then it swelled off and on. It maybe caused by several things, gas, the intestines trying to find a way to sit now that some organs are gone, inflamation. As everyone is different as is their surgery depending on the amount of work done inside etc.

as to the BM well I tend to agree with your husband it could be something you ate or drank, the dyes in some foods can discolour the result. However if you are concerned about it call your Dr's office and find out to put your mind at ease.

Remember you are just in the early stages so drink plenty of fluids, rest as required and often, get up walking as much as able, and above all follow your drs instructions

Re: Is this normal?????

Alecia, Everyone heals differently and it sounds like you are doing well. I spotted off and on (mostly light pink) for about five weeks. It got worse from week four to week five which my Dr.'s Nurse Practitioner said was most likely my stitches dissolving. I will be six weeks out on Friday and my spotting has stopped the last few days.

The swelly belly comes and goes but seems to get worse when I am on my feet for too long. I have lost 10lbs. since surgery but am still wearing my pants that have some elastic on the waistband. Much more comfortable.

Haven't had any green stools, but it sounds like something you ate. Don't ever hesitate to call your doctor with any concerns, that's what he's there for.

Is this normal?

That is the first time I have laughed in days (that you only ate soup and not an alien). Thank you! (P.S. no green poo here)

Re: Is this normal?????

I had a TAH 5 weeks ago and have mostly had swelling above and below incision as well. I have noticed, now that I try to increase my activity, that if I am up too much my whole belly swells. That did not occur during the first few weeks, probably because I was laying down round the clock.
My bleeding also stopped after about 6-7 days and has not at all returned. I have taken it super, super easy. I did not want to cause any problems.
As for the poo, green can be normal. Our bodies are weird like that. I am pretty sure the only thing you have to be worried about when it comes to poo color is black, tarry, coffee ground type appearance, mucusy, or bleeding. That is what I have been told at least.
Happy healing!

Re: Is this normal?

Thank you all for your replies. The green poo has stopped so I am very happy about that. Felling preety good most of the time, but I have noticed that the days I feel very good and try to move around too much I will usually feel bad the next day. So just trying to take it easy, even when I feel good. Some days it feels like I am going one step forwards and others I feel I am going two steps back. All part of the process I suppose Love and Hugs to you all!!! P.S. Though I do have some issues with my dr. I really must say he did an excellent job on my incision. I can barely see it, so that makes me very happy

Re: Is this normal?

Does anyone else's throat still hurt? My LAVPH (I think that's correct) was 3/8 and my throat is still really sore. I wonder if I had a sensitive reaction to the tube they put down there to help you breathe since I had allergic reaction to the tape, bandaids, antibiotics and pain meds. I git some numbing throat lozenges and that helps.
I also am feeling lots better but one hood day is followed by one day flat exhausted. Also tired of this crampy sensation inside that feels like early labor/knife stabs. And when I get super tired I also seem yo have a low fever.
thanks for sharing all your experiences and hints! You've all helped save my sanity
