choosing the right option for my Symptoms

Looking for others who may have the same issues that can shed a bit of advice.....

My periods started at the age of 13 and was put on birth control pills at that age to try to control the bleeding. I have tried every pill the drs have thrown at me. I also tried Mirena which I never stopped bleeding the whole time it was in, the dr and I agreed to take it out thinking my body rejected it. Then in 2011 I had a tubal preformed during my c section, and been trying ibuprofen therapy.

Now again my periods are so horrible that I don't want to leave the house because I may bleed all over my clothes in public even wearing Double pads, I have constant headaches, the cramps are bad, I have gained weight, and overall I plan my life around my monthly cycle.

My mom had to have a total hysterectomy at a young age, she told me that's her best suggestion...

As a mom of 4 what do you all recommend I will be seeing the Dr on Thursday, I just want my life back I don't want to be grouchy mom, who doesn't want to play with the kids during "that time of the month"

TIA for your replies

Re: choosing the right option for my Symptoms

I guess the first thing is to find out why your bleeding is so heavy. I know doctors can't always tell you in advance (my adenomyosis wasn't diagnosed until after my surgery, for instance). But if it's fibroids, there's a few options that don't involve removing your uterus. When my periods got bad, I took the pill and it did nothing. I didn't want an IUD at all because I'd heard too many negative stories. I had an ablation that failed and led to further problems. I know other women had good results from it, but based on my experience, I couldn't even recommend it. However, I say do your research if you choose that route. I ended up with a hysterectomy and it wasn't a hard decision because I was done having children. For other women, it's a very tough decision. Hopefully, your doctor can offer you options and allow you to choose what you're comfortable with.

Re: choosing the right option for my Symptoms

They have checked me for Fibroids and at the current time I don't have any, However it does run in families and it runs on my moms side is what I was told. So far they cannot give me reasons, they couldn't when I was 13 either, I have 4 and we are done having kids we have been married for nearly 9 years and my husband just wants what is best for me.

Ablation is not a option for me, I have heard negative things also.
