2 Failed Ablations- PAIN- Please read

I don't know what to do....I'm looking for anyone with any knowledge or experience with this. I've had 2 endometrial ablations, and both have "failed" ...I don't bleed at ALL.....but I'm in so much daily pain, I now take Hydrocodone all day every day for the last week to make it where I can function. When I say function, I mean go to work, take care of my kids etc... The Dr.'s have no idea what's wrong with me....we're trying to figure it out...and I've searched the internet and can find nothing! I'm at a loss.....but I'm hurting much more than before I had the surgeries. If anyone can tell me anything it'd be helpful!

Thanks

I am surprised to hear you had 2 abalations. In 1999 I had the thermal abalation. It actually seemed to work for a couple of years but then all my pain and heavy bleeding came back with a vengance. Thus my TAH on Nov.28. There has to be a reason for your pain. If your doctor does not know what is wrong maybe you need to see another one. I hope everything works out well with you. I will be thinking of you.

Hi (((kcbored))

I'm sorry you are hurting like this My pain was worse after my ablation, but in the form of severe cramping and not all the time like what you are describing.

They found adenomyosis nodules during my ablation & myomectomy. When these areas later bled, the ultrasound showed the blood being trapped by scar tissue, which caused the horrid cramping. The ablation was easy for me, so I would have gladly had a repeat, but was told a hyst was my only real option with the adenomyosis. I wish they could find the reason for your pain. I don't know what would cause the pain to be constant, but it sure sounds miserable

Sometimes a pain management specialist can locate and block the pain with injections if you'd be interested in persuing that route. Like ((raine1965)) said, maybe a new doctor would be able to help you, or at least offer another opinion.

I hope you find answers and relief soon. Please keep us posted.
s,
Beth

Sorry to hear you are having so much pain. Do not give up and keep researching. Also, do not be afraid to Dr. shop. There can be a big difference when it comes to your physician. I said no to ablation because there is a high failure rate if you look at independent studies. Seems most people go on to need a hysterectomy at some point later on. Keep the faith! I will keep you in my prayers for releif and guidance. Karen

KC:
You have gone through a lot -sorry to hear you are still in pain. Wish I had an answer but thought I 'd share that I had my 2nd ablation yesterday which was also considered a "failure". (After 3 attempts my dr couldn't fully inflate the balloon around my fibroids.)

Do you have fibroids? I have one that presses into my back that makes me uncomfortable on a regular basis. Another one is twisting near the top of my uterus. Vicodin helps a little ... My doctor told me that the ablation would help my bleeding but not cure my pain. Only a hyst would fully relieve me. Pretty sure I'll be having one in the Summer when I can get help with my kiddos during recovery.

Keep after your doctor because you are your best advocate. I try to gently remind him of all my symptoms during each follow up visit and ask every question no matter how dumb it may seem.

I also had an ablation on 11/22/05 - along with a D&C and hysteroscopy - didn't work and I kept bleeding and having exquisite pain. I was stunned because all of this was so 'out of the blue' for me...having never experienced any 'female' problems until October of this year. I did finally stop bleeding around Christmas - but the pain continues. I will have a hysterectomy on 1/25/06 - leaving the ovaries. I hope you do get a second and even third opinion, there is a reason for everything. Best wishes to you!

I am so relieved to hear someone else to have this problem--I, too, have had two 'failed' ablations. Second time he perforated my uterus--since that time I don't have a period--but have horrible pain-seems to be at the time of my monthly cycle (or when it would be) and my abdomen swells up-painful to touch or even walk- he (my ob-gyn) has done follow-up ultrasound and keeps insisting nothing is wrong. Something is!!!My new year's resolution is to dr. shop and find someone who can find out what is going on or just have a hysterectomy and get this over with--too painful to deal with anymore! Let me know what you decide to do-I am curious if anyone else has had this problem?
