Average Blood lost is TLH? and Blood Count

My Hemoglobyn is 12.5 right now. My GYN wanted 13 for the surgery so my question is, what is the average blood count and how low could i expect it to be after Hyster?

My Ferritin was 4 but I had Venofer infusions. My fabriods are small and nasty. My biggest fear is to loose a lot of blood.

Anyone that lost a lot of blood? also does the doctor keeps you longer at Hospital if you loose a lot of blood?

THis is my biggest concern!

Re: Average Blood lost is TLH? and Blood Count

I am having a TLH too. My Hgb is 11.7 ad I asked the surgeon about it and he said that was fine he did not anticipate too much blood loss or the need for any transfusions. he told me to take a multivitamin with iron. My surgery is still a ways off (june 3rd), I am going to follow up on this question in my next visit and meanwhile I am doing all I can to get my hgb up.

Normal range is approx 12-16. I had a TVH and "minimal" blood loss. I did have a very slight drop in blood levels, I forget the numbers but it started low normal and didn't go below normal. My Dr didn't even order a pre op crossmatch because he said transfusions were so rare with a TVH or LAVH. But I did get a blood draw in the AM post op to check the level anyway.

Re: Average Blood lost is TLH? and Blood Count

I had my surgery done on 3/14. Before surgery my Hgb was 11.2 and my ferritin was a 4 also. I had a LAVH and the doctor said I lost "some blood." After the surgery my Hgb was 9.8, but I still felt pretty good! I did not need a transfusion, I got sent home the next day and told to take an iron supplement (which I can not tolerate) I feel very well. When I had my first c-section (I had a lot of bleeding) my Hgb went down to 7.4...usually at this stage you would need a transfusion but I felt good so the doctor let me continue without one (per my request) as long as I didn't go lower. I think our bodies have a way of compensating ater being low for so long. And if you do need a transfusion it will be ok. The blood is montiored and tested pretty extensively these days. Good luck!
