Progesterone only pill for blood flow

As I wait to get my insurance fiasco under control, my period today is the worst ever! I have been bleeding through the largest size tampon, through the maxi pad and onto my clothes in as little as 20-30 mins. I've dripped blood and clots onto my bathroom floor (tmi), had dry heaves and body shakes.

My dr called in a progesterone only pill of which I am to take 3 at a time. I've never taken this pill and was wondering if any of you gals have and how it worked for you. If I'm still bleeding this much after taking the first dose, I've been told to go to the ER.

Sorta scared at this point.....

Re: Progesterone only pill for blood flow

I've been on Lupron injections and had a period last week when I'm supposed to be in chemical menopause. I called my doctor about it. She told me that if you are soaking through a pad or tampon every 30 minutes to an hour, it is considered emergency bleeding. Have you taken the first dose, and how quickly is it supposed to work? If I was in your situation, I'd be heading to the ER ASAP and not waiting around for it to kick in. That sounds like A LOT of bleeding to me. I'd rather be safe than sorry!

Re: Progesterone only pill for blood flow

So, I ended up not taking the progesterone last night. After I researched more about it, I didn't understand how it would help. I'm a bit confused about the success of this drug and I want more of a permanent fix. I was also afraid it would make my bleeding worse. My flow has slowed down considerably and I think the worst of this cycle is over with.

Re: Progesterone only pill for blood flow

I took progesterone for about 8 weeks before my surgery. It completely stopped the blood flow unless I did any heavy lifting. Towards the end of the eight weeks any lifting I did made me bleed and cramp a little, but nothing like I was before taking the progesterone. I believe my dosage was 10 mg a day....taken at the same time everyday, once a day.
