anxiety about weight gain

My Ob/gyn has basically told me a hyst is inevitable. To be honest, I am tired of dealing with all of the issues, so I would be totally ready if it weren't for ONE issue I am concerned about.... Many of the posts I have read have been extremely negative about weight gain. Does anyone have any positive feedback about weight control? I have to add, I already do not eat sugar, or any white products, exercise regulary, etc, and have maintained my weight since my early teens.... My Dr. stated he didn't think weight would be an issue for me since I have adhered to this plan for so long. I am still PETRIFIED....HELP!!!!!!!!!!

Re: anxiety about weight gain

I felt the same way before surgery, was freakin out thinkin of gaining weight too, and ime very fit and exercise alot too...So i was worried for nothing cuz really first week post op i didnt eat much anyway and just put little bit of yogurt and fruits into my body and slowly, slowly walked alot around the house for few mins at intervals throughout the days, and as time went on i was able to walk longer and speed up a very little bit at a time, and drank lots of water....so for me i havent gained any weight and ime 7wks post op now..i still am not able to perform at top physical exercise as before surgery yet, but ime getting there...so it sounds like your already in great physical shape and your tuned into exercise and eating right, so if i were you i wouldnt be concerned about weight gain...u may gain a little of water weight lol, but that not a biggy as you only have to pee to release water lol...ime making light only cuz i have my own personal experience of fears of weight gain too and now i know i totally stressed all that time for nothing...so thats a tidbit of my post op story so far,,,i hope this helps you...peace be with you and try to just relax and rest all will be well and just think of how much greater you will feel after your all healed from your surgery...so i hope this is positive info for you as ime one of the ladies who didnt gain any weight...

Re: anxiety about weight gain

Hi Suzystreet

I had a TAH BSO, and my weight has stayed the same as pre-op. I have maintained the same balanced diet I did pre-op and am now back to my normal exercise routine.

Everyone is different, but that has been my experience.

Good luck to you...

anxiety about weight gain

I was also worried about weight gain. I have practiced low carb lifestyle for 5 years. I actually lost 18 pounds in the two weeks prior to surgery and the week after and haven't gained it back. Everyone is saying I'm to thin now...lol...I'm not complaining tho.
I'm 47, had TAH and am taking HRT and am 7 weeks post op. Got back to the gym at 6 weeks post op slow and easy. Still doing treadmill very slow...low weight biceps and triceps.....and I did 5 ab crunches today!!!! Was so excited till I realized I was doing 300 a day prior to surgery....lol...oh well. Gotta start somewhere! Oh...as for swelly belly...i could tell my stomache had some swelling but no one else could so I was lucky there. Back in regular clothes in one week...but they r pretty baggy from the weight loss. Just watch what you eat, be as active as your body tells you that you can and everything should be fine!!!!

Re: anxiety about weight gain

My primary care physician says that weight control is generally harder after menopause, but the nurse practitioner at the surgeon's office told me that it is NOT true that most women gain large amounts of weight after surgery. Glad to hear from some athletic people and that you are getting back into exercise after surgery. I was told I could walk, then run but no lifting for 10 weeks. I am going to do boot camp tomorrow for the last time for a while, and do abs the day before surgery BEFORE bowl prep of course.
