pre - op nerves

Hello ladies. This website is absolutely amazing. Well, today is Thursday and my pre -op is on Monday and TAH BSO on Tuesday. I have been frantically cleaning but today, I hit a wall. I don't want to do anything and I'm getting nervous. I CAN'T WAIT!!! This is driving me crazy. What did you do to pass the time?

Re: pre - op nerves

My Surgery is Mon. Kuddos to you for getting the house cleaned. My needs to be done really bad, but I have to work all weekend and as I sit here I just don't want to. I hope the family will take care of it this weekend. All I want to do is focus on recovery, even though there is plenty that needs to be done.
I have been spending most of my "extra" time searching hystersisters for anyhting I haven't thought of and just general support that this will be okay and a new life is waiting on the other side

Good Luck to you, see you on the other side.

Re: pre - op nerves

Trust me, the more you can mark off your "to do list" now you'll be thankful for. During recovery there's nothing more maddening than starting at things you want/need to do that you can't.
In the meantime, check the Castle packing list, stock up at the grocery, pre-bake meals, etc.
Wishes for an easy & speedy process!
Blessings,
Leeann

Re: pre - op nerves

I don't know; there was so much to do beforehand, I never felt like I could stop! But that was probably self-imposed. Keeping busy was my modus operandi for staying sane. If I wasn't cleaning, making lists or shopping, I was finding some other distraction for myself like starting up yoga for the first time or running.

Re: pre - op nerves

My TVH is Monday and you have taken the words out of my mouth, My DH works away and my 3 x DD'S are spending a few nights at Grandma's which I thought would give me time to clean the house, Iron school uniforms etc, but instead I'm already feeling like I'm in post op mode and can't get motivated..... :S
I can't tell whether it's excitement or nerves but I'm having trouble sleeping too... can't keep my brain from thinking about the littlest things. :S
Hopefully the weekend goes fast!! - youngzebra, hopefully working takes your mind off it all for a bit I've got kids parties to try and give my mind a break... mmmm maybe i should go to the movies heehee... any excuse lol

Re: pre - op nerves

I was like you! I hit a wall and couldn't do anymore either, the anxiety was killing me. My TAH was scheduled for 730am. I got to the hospital and things moved very quickly so didn't have too much time to worry that day. I changed into the lovely hospital gown, pee'd for the pregnancy test, and then talked with the anesthesiologist for a bit and finally with my doctor, signed the paperwork and then got some "happy juice". I remember being wheeled into the OR but not much after that. The waiting is the hardest part. I am 1 week post-op. I spent 4 days in the hospital and am comfortable at home now. This is the best decision I have made in a long time, I wish I would have done it sooner. My advice post-op...keep up on your pain meds and say yes to the colace...I was a bit constipated!

Re: pre - op nerves

Everything KBP said, though I got out after two nights which was a massive relief.

The Hystersisters recommendation of a big table beside your bed and/or daytime chair was the best idea I read here. I set up card tables beside both. My own addition was to put a power strip on each table so I wouldn't have to get up to plug things in or unplug them.

In addition to the good, nutritious food you should stock up on, stock up on comfort food - ice cream, your favorite cookie, that kind of thing. You won't feel like eating much anyway, so it's nice to have things you might not normally have at home.
