Does everybody get a bowl prep before they have their surgery?

No, it all depends on the surgeon's preference.

In hindsight, I'm really glad that I started out empty since it took a few days for my intestinal tract to wake up. If I'd been kind of full already...

Yes I am doing mine now. Clear liquids after lunch, mag citrate bottle at 2pm (they let me do 4 since it was after work), enema before bed, then NPO after midnight. Hope that helps. My surgery is at 1pm.

I didn't have and it didn't cause any issues postop for me. Every surgeon is different in their preferance.

My doc had me do a bowel prep. Clear liquids the day before the surgery. Magnesium Citrate and 6 and 8 and then nothing after midnight but she let me fudge a little and said 8 hours before since my surgery was in the afternoon. Fun times had by all.

I am doing this tomorrow. I am having a TAH so I'm also sort of happy. I know the first one after a c-section was tough so I figure it will be the same.

Doing prep starting Tuesday clear liquids and mag citrate.... Tah 19th.
