May start my period the day before surgery will this cause any problems??
Hi everyone, I have found this site to be so helpful. I am scheduled for a LAVH March 20th. I thought I was free and clear with my cycle, but as luck has it I started my period a few days early and now that sets me up to start my next (and I hope last) period the day before surgery. My question is: will this be a problem and will they be able to do the LAVH even if I am on my period?
Thanks everyone. This site has helped me to be less anxious and more informed as I prepare for March 20th.

My dr. told me it wasn't going to be a problem and I was at the end of my period when I had my surgery. The nursing staff weren't bothered by it either. Just don't wear a tampon--they may or may not give you a hospital pad with the lovely mesh panties. Check with your dr. to be sure.
Best wishes on your upcoming surgery Mar. 20th!

Simply put, "No, it is not a problem". Some women never stop bleeding. Good luck and don't worry. It'll be over before you know it.

May start my period the day before surgery will this cause any problems??
I too, started my period the day before my surgery.
I called my dr to double check if this was an issue. He said no problem.
When I got to the hospital, they told me that if I was on my period and was wearing a tampon to remove it. They gave me a pair of those lovely net panties and a pad that is made to wear with a belt (I had forgotten those things existed ).
When I was in the OR, they cut off the panties and removed the pad. My surgery was TAH.
Hope all goes well in your surgery. Let us know how you are doing when you are ready.
Sending lots of 's your way.

I thougt my period was going to strike me the day of my surgery, and I mentioned it to my doctor when we scheduled it, and he said, "Doesnt' matter". The period will not delay anything. So, looks like you'll be free in the clear. The only thing is that it's a pain in the butt to have to deal with along with everything else.
But soon it will be over = -)
