Weight gain and HRT???

I am new to this site and will be having my TAH on Dec.4. I keep hearing about weight gain or loss with TAH/HRT. Does anyone know much about this. I weigh about 200 now and don't really want to gain any weight, but want my moods to balance. All info will be greatly appreciated!!

Weight gain and HRT???

Hi,

I had a tah/bso 16 months ago. I'm on hrt ( started the day after my surgery ). I've actually lost about 10 pounds and they've stayed off. I think that the reason I lost is that at first, I didn't have much of an appetite and couldn't eat much at a time anyway. Then, as I got active again - it just stayed off.
The hrt seems to keeping me fairly balanced.

Please remember that all people are different, I've read that some ladies do gain weight. I think that maybe you should discuss your concerns with your dr.

Weight gain and HRT???

Hi

Everyone is different and their bodies react differenty.

I had a TAH/SBO 22 months ago. I have been on ERT since 2 weeks after surgery. I lost about 10 pounds immediately after surgery, due mainly to no appetite and the amount of energy the body needs to heal.

Otherwise my weight has been pretty stable. Any gain is due to eating the wrong stuff and in the wrong amounts!

I do have a lot more energy than I had before surgery and I am a lot more active than I was. DH & I got new bikes this spring and we ride whenever we ca, but with the onset of cold weather they are now put away for the winter.

Best wishes!

Weight gain and HRT???

Hi Sabrina!

We share the same surgery date. As I'm still a LIW, I can't speak from experience about the HRT/ERT weight-gain issue. I will say that I've been on Depo-Provera for almost 6 months, and Depo definitely caused weight gain for me. I've had to diet just to maintain my "pre-Depo" weight. I'm certainly hoping the post-op HRT won't be any WORSE than that!

Good luck with all your surgery preparations in the next few days!
