LAVH 3 day post hysterectomy. Passing gas but no bowel movement.

I am feeling kind of crabby today because I have not have a bowel movement.I am a little sore and I have insomnia.I drunk two cup of coffee this morning still haven't move.I feeling depressed because I am stuck in the house ready to get doll up and burn some rubber.They pain pills i take for pain away but they are making me feel nauseous.I hope I will feel better tomorrow and hope the constipation will go away.Thanks sister for listening to me vent.

If you take narcotics they will make constipation worse or cause constipation - did they tell you what to take in terms of bowel medication?
I took narcotics only for one day but I took sennakot with it. And I had milk of magnesia if nothing happens the 5 day. But senna was enough for me.

I stopped the pain pills and took Everything I could for the horrible constipation. Milk of Magnesia did the trick.

I had to stop the percocet and take extra laxatives. I have bad nausea and take zofran but you can make ginger or peppermint tea to help.

Try Smooth Move tea. It is also called Senna Tea. Drink one cup before bed. It works like a charm for constipation. Just to be used sparingly. I think I used it about 4 times after my hysterectomy and things got regular after that. It takes a while to feel normal! Good luck

It took me about two weeks to actually have a BM. Even when I took laxatives and stool softeners. I still really havn't had a satisfactory BM. I would eat some yogurt and talk to your dr about stool softeners.

You also have to let your body heal. Three days is a really short time.

I woke up about two hour ago feeling 100 to 0 now.I was so glad that I took a bowel movement this morning I think it was the longest I stayed in the bathroom.Well after I done that I took a bath a put on some cloths to go walking in there a horrible pain hit me I haven't been taking so many pain pills as usual because of the constipation. Now I am back in the bed feeling like my stomach is going to drop out.I think I tried from the 30 minute walk I did to help with constipation.Do anybody feel like this one minute u up the next minute u down?

That's exactly how I felt my first week post-op! I was also keen to get going again, but I had terrible pains from the constipation and gas, and nausea and vomiting from the effects of the narcotics. What finally got me moving was stopping the narcotics and having a green smoothie with cherries, on top of everything else I was doing. I can also vouch for peppermint tea; it also works for gas. Another trick that worked for me was bringing my knees to my chest when sitting on the toilet; this straightens the rectum, so the stool passes more easily. Hope you start to feel better soon!

I am 2 days post op from TVH and an anterior bladder repair. I called today and got a prescription for colace aka docusate sodium whutch is a stool softener. For me, it hurts to bear down to urinate or even pass gas. I havent had a bm yet but hopefully when its time I wont be too sore. As far as your situation goes, my advice, not from my experience but as a nurse is keep drinking plenty of water. Start a stool softening regimen and if you're passing gas, your bowels are on the right track. The narcotics will cause constipation so stopping them should start getting you regular again, BUT....if you stop them and are still in lots of pain , that could lead you to becoming constipated again just from avoiding a bowel movement due to pain. Be careful with laxatives also. Some might cause cramping that is so forceful, I would be concerned that any internal sutures from repairs might rupture. Listen to your body, be patient. consult with your surgeon on what your next steps should be . Good luck!
