Upcoming hysterectomy the 22nd September

I am scheduled to have surgery the 22nd to remove a right ovarian mass, and my uterus. I've decided regardless of the risk I'm keeping my left ovary as I'd rather not have to deal with HRT.
Right now my doc is planning laparoscopic surgery and will do staging then.
I'm nervous, there are some risks to me having this surgery. I have apparently already had a TIA though I was told it was a migraine. I can't quit smoking in time for the surgery because she said there is some kind of complications with that. So she said they will probably be giving me a blood thinner and I will need to quit smoking immediately after the surgery.
I'm actually quite relieved to have the hysterectomy because I've always had issues with endometriosis. Two surgeries to remove endometrial adhesions that had everything messed up.
So hello,!

Hi just_me1122 to HysterSisters!

I am so sorry you are going through all of this, but very glad you found this site.

While your surgery is for something other than endo, please know that a hysterectomy will not cure endo. You need an expert to remove the disease. Here is an article that discusses this: Can Endometriosis Return after a Hysterectomy?

Follow your doctors orders regarding what she wants you to do regarding smoking, as well as the other instructions she will give you (what OTC meds to not take, diet before surgery, etc.). I am sure she knows about your TIA. Make sure all your surgical team is aware of this, especially your anesthesiologist.

I am glad you get to keep one ovary - that is great news in all of this.

You should put in your hysterectomy date: click on PROFILE - HYST DATE at the bottom of the page. Also, put in your surgery type: click on SURVEY - HYST TYPE.

I know this is an overwhelming experience. Just know that you are not alone in this.

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy the 22nd September

Surgery has been postponed so they can get a better idea of what's going on. They have decided to do a mri to see how bad my endometriosis is and where the mass is as well as a better idea of what it is.

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy the 22nd September

Hi just_me1122 -

Okay, deep breath. I know it is frustrating having your surgery postponed. It is also frustrating to keep going through tests. But it is important for the doctors to know what is going on.

I had an ultrasound for my mass, which diagnosed a very large (12x9x11 cm ) complex ovarian cyst, followed by an MRI because they could not see the starting point of the mass. The MRI allowed them to see that.

Let us know how your MRI went.
