What is it about setting the date?

:jumping:

I found out today that my surgery date is Oct. 16th and now all of the sudden I'm scared. I haven't been fearful all along Oh well, I know that I have made the right desicion, so no second guessing myself now! I have the most fabulous Dr. He has answered all my questions without making me feel ignorant. I am a person with a sense of humor and he makes me laugh and we joke a lot I know that I am in the best hands. He is actually an infertility specialist which makes me feel like a hysterectomy isn't something that he goes for right away. To him, reproductive organs are very precious and so I feel like he wouldn't be willing to remove them if he weren't 100% certain that they needed to be removed.

I am having a vaginal hysterectomy; leaving the ovaries (I'm only 32). It is only 4 weeks away and I have so much to do. we will be in N.Y. the week before surgery so that means only 3 weeks to get my house in order. :run2:

Me too.....

I am having a vaginal hysterectomy; leaving the ovaries (I'm only 33). I found this out today. I had a laprascopy last week. The doctors office will be calling me with the date in the next couple of days. I had a Lupron Injection today too. They told me I should have the surgery within 2 weeks from now.... I have endometriosis, holes in my uterus from the endo and scar tissue. I have lots of pain with my cycles, I only have 2-4 good days a month. My periods can last 10-14 days a month with huge blood clots. I pray this will work so I can function. I learned I have huge pockets of vericose veins in my tummy area too. Lots I have learned this summer.....

I am wishing you the best! I really hope all will go well for you! Sounds like you have good doctors like I do!

So soon!

I know exactly what you mean. I waited very impatiently for three weeks to get a surgery date. When they finally called me yesterday (9/17) and told me Oct. 9th I felt like someone kicked me in the chest - it's really going to happen and it's only 3 weeks away! I couldn't sleep at all last night. I know it doesn't do any good to lie in bed and think about all the possibilities, but it's so hard to turn it off.

THEN this afternoon, as if I wasn't freaked-out enough, after I put in for my leave of absence, got all my forms turned in and approved (my boss still doesn't think I need to be out for 6 weeks), my Dr called and had to move it up a week to Oct. 2nd! I feel like crying. I don't know if I'm ready. I'm not sure what I'm really scared of. I had a lap for endo under general anesthesia about 4 years ago and thought nothing of it. What am I so terrified of? It's only 2 weeks away now. I already can't eat or sleep. I know so many people that have gone through it without a single hitch or regret. My very good friend had a TAH BSO done the day after Christmas last year and still entertained on New Years. I'm a young 43, healthy and strong. Why do I feel like this???

I asked the Dr for some help with the anxiety last week and he prescribed an anti-depressant. I don't think I'm depressed, just anxious and scared. I tried it and it hasn't done a bit of good. I still can't sleep. I asked him for something else today, I'm not sure what he is going to call in for me but I hope it works better.

I am very grateful that I found this site. I think it helps to know I’m not the only one out there that feels this way. I guess I should just stock up on Kleenex and busy myself getting ready.

What is it about setting the date?

Mary C,

I have had a few days to realize that I'm going to be fine. I have asked God to give me His peace and He has. I want this for all of us, so I'll say here that none of us can make our situation any better by worrying about it. When was the last time that we worried over something and as a result of the worry, that situation got better?? It is such wasted energy and yet so many of us do it, I believe because we have a fear of the unknown. This is where faith comes in. What is faith? Hope in that which is unseen but which is promised to us from God. Is He a liar? I don't think so, the Bible says He is perfect. How many of us doubt something that never fails? We never doubt that when we sit down in a chair that the chair isn't going to be there to catch us. And this is only a chair. God can do so much more, and keeping His promises to us is included in this. So I will leave you all with this promise from His word to stand upon and receive peace from:

John 14:27-"peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."

In Him,
Heather

Thanks Heather

Thank you Heather for your post. I do feel better today. I have read books about worry and know it only saps my strength. I think most of it came from the fact that they scheduled me so much sooner than I thought they would. I also think that my fears have been compounded by the events of last week.

I pray everyday and know that I am in His care. I do tend to forget sometimes and I thank you for your thoughts and wisdom. I have full confidence in my Dr and his skills and will try to practice prayer instead of worry on the nights I have trouble sleeping.

I will pray for you too on the 16th!

Hug!
