Time off required for robotic hysterectomy?

[quote=amyharis;4822472]I have my hysterectomy (taking uterus and cervix) coming up and am wondering how much time I really need to take off. I do medical transcription, so I don't even have to leave the house. My typing takes from 4-6 hours usually and has to be in by 2 PM (I get up by 7:30 at the latest, so have 6 1/2 hours to play with). Could anyone give me some advice on how long is absolutely necessary? My doctor initially said six weeks, but when I explained my situation he said at least a week. My boss and I are wondering if an entire week is excessive? Thanks![/QUO

Hi, good luck to you!
I just had robotic surgery on 7/14 & returned to work after 4 weeks. It took a good 6 weeks to feel 100%, but i definitely needed 4 weeks recovery

Re: Time off required for robotic hysterectomy?

Despite robotic, you still need time to overcome narcotics and time for muscles and incision to heal. A week is too optimistic as uterus removal is not a small surgery. Your body and system is being 'disturbed' to an extent more than you thought. You will be more tired than your thought too.

I suggest listen your body, be patient and rest. Recovery can't be rushed. You may suffer complications or slow down recovery if you push yourself too much.

Good luck.

Hi
I had a total hysterectomy robotically on Aug 18th. I had planned on 2 weeks off. But after realizing how tired I would get after a couple hours of doing stuff I decided to take an additional week. I felt like I did too much a few days ago and started spotting and had pain on my left side where one of the incisions was. I had to resume taking my prescription ibuprofen. It is now 2 days later and I am feeling better but I know if I go back to work Monday I would not continue to heal properly. After another week at home, I plan on going back part time. Would part time be an option for you?
I am not sure if I answered your question but let your body tell you when to start back full time.
My surgery went perfectly, surgery at 7:30 am and home in bed by 11:00 am the same day, and only was on pain meds for 3 days and thought I could go back after two weeks.
Hoping your surgery and recovery goes well.
Laura
