As if I didn't have enough to do already.....

Now I get a driver's license renewal in the mail. Only available appts. are for immediately after my surgery on the 2nd and during the time that i'm not allowed to drive! Oy Vey! As if I needed another headache to deal with 10 days before surgery! It will expire before my 6 weeks is up too....what to do, what to do! They usually just renew me by mail but the happens to be the 3rd renewal where I need to go to the DMV office to do this!

Just needed to vent my frustration! Now i'm off to make some calls....

Wow, this is interesting to hear how they do things differently in other states. In PA, we get a paper in the mail within a certain time frame of our license expiring. It's a paper that we take with us to go to our county's picture id licensing centers...I think there are 3 to choose from. they have set hours, but it's on a walk-in basis...no appts. We walk in, get our picture taken, get our new license and we're good to go. now, the paper we get in the mail, if i remember correctly (I just had to do it in september), also serves as a temp license for 30 days AFTER our license expires on our picture id license. We do pay to have our license...and we only have to have it done every 5 years.

Perhaps there is some way you can explain your situation to someone at the DMV and get it done before. If not, try to get someone to help you.

Hope it works out for you. Like you said....like you don't have enough already and then have to worry about petty stuff like this. There was a term they used when i was in high school learning about computers i think....it was garbage in/garbage out. sometimes I feel like that....I take in so much garbage in my brain, process it, then spit out the used garbage. what we go through

esa -

i've called since it said that I renewed by mail the last two times that I now have to go in. But the last time I renewed I went in then too (which is the license I have now). Anyway...I called (only took 2 hours to get something besides a busy signal) and after 30 minutes of pushing 1 or 2 on my touch tone phone I finally got a live person (imagine!) and she pulled up my records and said "sorry, you still have to come in". When I explained that the appts. available at this time were just right after my major surgery she said that I could call back another time to make an appt for April. Apparently they only schedule 2 weeks ahead of time. Anyway...next tuesday I blocked off a WHOLE DAY to spend at the local DMV (walk ins are accepted but get this.....they actually run out of numbers - now they put letters in front of the number they give you - like instead of just 103, they'll call B103) I don't know how high their numbers go in a day but at this point I really don't care. It will probably take me around 3-5 hours of sitting there waiting for my turn just to get a picture taken. I'd rather do it before my surgery than having hang over my head while in recovery!

BTW: I hate the California DMV's!
