Went to the Doctor today..

I just want to start out by saying thank you to all of you who responded to me yesterday in my pain med. situation. I truly am blessed to have all of you on my side...

I went to see him today and as most of you said he was truly concerned. Then after he done an exam on me we went back to his office and he starts going over everything that we have done, as far as trying to get my problems under control. He then proceeds to tell me that he thinks that the next step would be a hysterectomy.............. .....WHAT? He didn't even realize that I was already scheduled for it!
I know that he is very busy with other patients but am I wrong to be a little uneasy with the him not knowing this? :confuse:

Maybe I am just emotional and thinking to much.... I am however under the influence of pain meds and feel MUCH better.

Thanks for listening to me, I want to give you all great big 's!

Teresa

Went to the Doctor today..

He didn't know you were scheduled for surgery after he reviewed your file in his office?? I would consider finding a new doc. Don't mean to scare you, but if he's got the info right there under his nose and can't see it, will he remember to remove the correct body part during surgery?! Sorry to be so harsh, but I personally believe docs shouldn't be so absent-minded. It would make me feel a bit uneasy. Sorry you are having to deal with this..... I'll pray for you.

Thank you for that. I was kinda thinking the same thing. He has been my Doctor for a long time and I do trust him, but it did make me a little uneasy. I think he was just in a bit of a hury... he was running behind because he was on call....

Or at least I hope that is what it was.... Anyway, Thank you!

Went to the Doctor today..

When you want to talk to him, make sure he has the time - ASK the question - Do you have time for me to talk? Make sure he is focused on you and not "running late or on call" - not acceptable for him and not acceptable for you to just assume that is the case. You need his full attention - however you need to get it.

That would make me a little uneasy too. The advice about making sure you have his full attention is good. When I know I have lots of questions and want to be sure my doc isn't in a hurry to get to the next patient I let the receptionist know at the time I schedule. I just say, "Hey! I need lots of time to talk with him so schedule me for an extra long visit!" That usually does the trick and I don't feel rushed or flustered. After all, we are paying them to take care of us!

Also, if you really like your doc, maybe just try to speak with him and let him know that him not being totally up to date and forgetting that you were already scheduled for surgery really made you uneasy. If he's a good doc, he will own up to his slip, apologize and try extra hard to ease your worries.
