Lack Of Feeling In Upper Legs

I remember reading somewhere that use of the retracters in surgery can cause numbness in the upper thighs because the nerves are right there by the surgical site.

I've heard of some ladies getting feeling back after their surgeries, but I wasn't one. I got some sensation back last time, but everything is completely numb again since this latest op.

I was told it can take up to a yr for nerves to regrow. After that, you're pretty much stuck where you are in regards to feeling or loss of feeling.

It does sound like nerve trauma. I would ask your GYN. Hopefully it is not permanent.
Best of luck,

It sounds like the feeling is coming back since you have some pins and needles sensations. My doctor told me what Wendy mentioned--that it could take a year for feeling to return, if at all.

Lack Of Feeling In Upper Legs

It's weird that you mentioned the numbness in your upper leg. My left thigh is still numb. It feels tingly at times. I tried to massage it thinking that the feeling would go away but it didn't work. I remember reading on the website that the nerves get moved around during surgery and that could be the cause of it.

I mentioned this to my doctor and he said that the feeling would come back. It has been nine weeks and it hasn't returned yet.

Lack Of Feeling In Upper Legs

I am 5 days post op (Feb. 19), LSH, and I, too, have a numbness in my upper left thigh. I asked the Dr. about it and she said the feeling would come back but I'm wondering how long it might be. My problem is that when I am sleeping, the thigh feels as though it is on fire and last night, I woke up in excruciating pain. It felt as though someone was stabbing me with a sharp knife in the thigh. This was the worst pain I've felt through this whole experience.

I see my Dr. on Thursday and I'll ask her about it, but until then, does anybody have any ideas on what to do for the "stabbing" pain? The numbness is annoying, but I suppose it's liveable, but the tingling sensations, heat and stabbing pain hurt! Any advice would be great!

Hope you are all doing wonderfully!
