Showering - how soon
I know it's crazy but other than the stuff that's normal to worry about, I'm worried about not being able to shower and even more so, not to be able to shave my legs. I can't stand the thought of having nubby hair on my legs and that'll happen after just 1 day. If I was able to sit in the shower, would I be able to do it slowly after a few days post-op? I'm having a TAH, so I know that doesn't bode well for my chances.

Re: Showering - how soon
Catarina, I am with you on this question!! My surgery is scheduled for July 7th and I can't tell you how many times I have thought of this and just not said anything to anyone!! Sometimes I guess it is the little things we obsess about, I probably won't care too much about leg hair or head hair or anything much til I am home and then my hubby can help me. But even that will be kind of sad because I alway like to look good for him: not him helpin me shave my legs!! Whatever, I just want to come through it all healthy and healing right, hair or not!!

Re: Showering - how soon
Yeah, I'm gonna have to let go of some of my hang-ups. I'm pretty modest and the idea of my husband seeing me in the shower with a big old swelly belly and...well, you get the idea. I know me and I'm not going to ask him to hop in the shower and shave my legs. I did think about getting an electric razor and that way we could just put down a sheet on the bed...I'm sure there are more important things I should be worrying about .

Re: Showering - how soon
The nurses had me up and sent me into the shower on day 2. It was actually a bit complicated in there with a fuzzy head and a catheter and a bag of urine to manage, but the shower felt really good.
Why don't you get your legs waxed just before your surgery to put your mind at rest over this issue? My surgery was TVH, but I would not have fancied shaving my legs.
Goodluck

Re: Showering - how soon
I've thought about that. Any ideas how long it lasts? That might be the perfect option. Thanks!

Re: Showering - how soon
I haven't shaved my legs for years. My ancestry is mediterranean and the hairs on my legs are dark and coarse. Waxing lasts me a couple of weeks and the hairs that grow back are finer than regrowth from shaving.
If you are fairer it will last longer.

I was able to shower next day, but talk to your doctor. No baths for 6 weeks. Good luck!

I'm 1/2 Italian and yes, the hair is dark and coarse. It feels horrible and stubbly after just one day. I'm going to check into the waxing. That's the best option.

Re: Showering - how soon
I'm 1/2 swedish and have never waxed my legs in my life!! I usually like to take care of that every other day, but this time it will just have to wait. Maybe because my husband is a really sweet guy, or my second husband, or whatever, I don't really care too much if he sees my swelly belly and hairy legs and everything. I know he loves me anyway!! I am very blessed.

Re: Showering - how soon
They took the Cath out on the second day and on the 3rd my Dr. wanted to remove my dressing and she said a shower will wet the tape and loosen it. Then she looks closer and said, "oh this side is coming off, lets just Rrrrrriiiiiiip! There!" I think I kind of did a Shreck imitation just said quietly, "ooowww." she smiled and poked around it a little and said it looked really good but I could still shower if I wanted. God that felt soooo good!
As to the shaving, I had them waxed before I went in, did the full spa thing, nails and toes. I'm 3 weeks out and I just shave the other day and you know what!??! I could reach them SO much better with out the big uterus in the way. In fact I was doing my own toes and I have not been able to do that in over a year!
Yoga here I come!!! (at week 6 when my Dr clears me)
