Re: Underwear Dilema :D

I haven't had my surgery yet but I was thinking depends might work any thought on those.

Re: Underwear Dilema :D

I don't think you would need Depends after a hysterectomy. There may be a little bleeding, but a pad can handle it. Cotton "granny panties" one size larger than your normal size would work.

Re: Underwear Dilema :D

my experience at the hospital is they give you "hospital issue" stretchy panties and they are large enough to be comfortable. I got myself some "granny" high waist regular underwear 3 sizes larger than normal to wear after surgery and it was the best thing I could have done. you don't want anything tight on your waist or incision areas so for now I don't mind wearing big, comfy undies.

Thanks for all your support ladies. I think I'll get a couple of each.

Re: Underwear Dilema :D

I don't think you need them three sizes larger than normal. One or two sizes larger would probably be ok. The "swelly belly" will last at least a week, but longer if you overdo while recovering. The swelling may come and go, but suddenly you notice it is gone. You can get cheap cotton panties at your local discount store for about $5.00 for a 3-pack or $8.00 for a 5 or 6-pack. It is nice to buy new, nicer ones once you lose your swelly belly. I took thin pads to the hospital with me. When you wake up from surgery, they have the stretch panties on you. I didn't have to worry about staples because I had stitches and peri-strips.

Re: Underwear Dilema :D

I hated the granny panties I bought myself. I ended up wearing my stretchy silky ones that came up above the incison. I plan to donate the granny panties. I think Barely There and some other types that stretch work well.

Thank you I didn't think about how tight they would fit on me.

For those with abdominal incisions, cotton underwear would probably be better because cotton will help the incision stay drier.

Re: Underwear Dilema :D

Okay, this may be TMI - but I have given up on panties all together for the last month. Hmmm, will see what happens when I go back to work, may not be brave enough LOL

Going Commando (no panties) - good for you. Made me smile and being comfortable at this point in recovery is a priority whatever it takes
