Re: Can't sleep!!

I had this problem for the first month or so, too. You should talk to your doctor about prescribing something to help you sleep. It will help with these early weeks when you really, really need your sleep in order to heal. I used xanax every few nights at first...am no longer using it at 9 weeks. But, it did get me through the first month! Or, you could you an OTC sleep aid like Alteril. Main thing is, it's normal to have trouble sleeping and you shouldn't hesitate to get help. Now, I just have my big cup of chamomile right before bed and I sleep well.

Re: Can't sleep!!

Are you taking any meds before bed? The 800 mg ibuprofen keeps me awake and makes me feel anxious. I forget that until i'm lying wide awake at 3 am thinking "ibuprofen...grrrr"

Re: Can't sleep!!

Thanks Annonkeys I have my first post op on Wednesday. I will most defenatly tell my doctor about this problem. The last I looked at the clock it said 4:58 am!! Rediculous right!! @ lovetherascals I took a Vicodin before bed because I was so sore because it was my sisters baby shower and I was up and at it the whole day!
Thanks for you comments ladies !! Really appriciate it!

Re: Can't sleep!!

I had trouble sleeping before surgery as well...
I take 2 AdvilPM's or generic equivalent when needed to help me sleep.

Re: Can't sleep!!

I think I'll need to do something. I have been up all night never night since surgery with only about an hour or 2 of sleep. It's really frustrating not being able to sleep. Thanks again for your advice.

Re: Can't sleep!!

I had a TVH ab 3 weeks ago and have had the same problem. I kept both of my ovaries and I wonder if they are kind of "asleep" because of the surgery. I've had a few night sweats too. My dr said insomnia is common after a hysterectomy and prescribed me ambien last week and told me to try 1/2 a pill. The past few nights I haven't had to use it, so it's getting better. It's taken me about an hour to fall asleep though. I didn't wake up in a sweet last night either.

Re: Can't sleep!!

That's what's been going on with me. I get night sweats. Weird. I'll have to talk to my doctor about it when I do in tomorrow for my first post op.
Thanks!

Re: Can't sleep!!

I had the same problem and got an Rx to help. I just started week 5 and am now cutting them in half and still sleeping well. Insomnia is very common after surgery, I haven't read why. Your Dr will not be surprised at all.
