Pre-op questions

I am down to 6 days now and wondering if there are any specific questions I should ask my doctor about?
I have 2 already.....1 is I don't know for sure what type of hysterectomy I am having. I know I am keeping both of my ovaries which brings me to my next question.....will I still have PMS symptoms?

I anyone has any suggestions as to what type of questions I should ask please pass them along........I just found out 3 weeks ago I have to have this surgery so things are moving so fast I want to make sure I ask all the right questions.

Thank You!!

Re: Pre-op questions

You are keeping your ovaries so you should not have PMS. I am 3 weeks post op and I kept my ovaries. I had a laproscopic vaginal assisted hysterectomy. I was pretty much pain free after surgery. I am still tired and weak, but other than that I am doing great.

Re: Pre-op questions

I had a whole list of questions for the doctor, but when I got in there she covered most of them without me asking. I did stay in hospital 1 night. The day before she had me do a colon cleanse since I was having both my uterus and cervix taken out. This helps prevent nipping the colon. It wasn't bad, miralax and gatorade all day after breakfast. Just tasted like gadorade. I was very please with the pre-op nurse, and everyone who took care of me in the hospital. I am so glad I made the decision to have it. I have had cryosurgery, LEEP, and still abnormal paps. The stress was getting the best of me.

Re: Pre-op questions

Your ovaries are what produce your pms hormones, so yes you will still have symptoms. I am 6 weeks post op and am pretty sure I know when I was supposed to have my period. and I am here to tell you it as AWESOME to not bleed. I was a little sensitive and had the chocolate cravings, I felt phantom cramps, but nothing bad. Everything was so minimized compared to what I was going through.
I had a LSH, and kept both ovaries and my cervix. I had the cleanse, mine was yucky, but we all have it different.
Find out if you are keeping your cervix, if you are getting Laparascopic. If you will be spending the night at the hospital.
I can't think of anything else. I just asked questions that were important to me. Like can I climb steps, when can I exercise. what should my diet be etc. How long off work etc.
Good Luck!

On this web site is a list of questions you can ask your doctor at your pre-op. You should also ask them your PMS question.

Good luck

Re: Pre-op questions

ask how long u will be in hosptial?
Are you keeping cervix or not?
No periods if your not, if you do you will still have light bleeding. I kept both ovaries..I had a lavh two weeks ago.
I stayed overnight. You can ask when to go back to work if you work?
You can ask if you will be doing a prep for surgery and if yes make sure exactly what kind. Many different types of bowel preps have I seen here on this sight. I had to only do an enema the night before and I was able to eat all day up to midnight the day before. Others have been on clear liquid diet all day prior.
Ask about nail polish, if it has to come off or not. I have seen that happen as well. Sorry i am being so all over I am trying to remember anything I asked and any one else that has brought up stuff on here.
You can ask about a binder or not. most girls wear one, depends on how you feel.
Hope I helped
