Did I do too much too soon?

I'm waiting for my doc to call me back and feeling a little anxious.. My surgery (LAVH) was on 9/28. after one week I was feeling good and my doc visit went well and he said ok to do some walking and driving ok. Well I think I over did it! and now I'm back to the same pain level I was when I first came home. Very swollen and painful. No bleeding at all. Has anyone else has this experience? feel like I took 2 steps back?

little scared hope I didnt do any damage..

Re: Did I do too much too soon?

That is your bodies way of saying SLOW DOWN! Here's the thing: everyone heals differently. Even dr's will have different "healing" timelines for people. My dr told my hubby after surgery that by 5 weeks I'd be totally back to normal. I FELT good, mind you, but I wasn't going to help him move the couch when we moved, ya know? And it was just about then that driving felt normal.
Listen to your body. Slow down. Rest for a day or so as much as possible. LISTEN TO YOUR BODY!
XOXOXOXO Pamper the princess!!!

Re: Did I do too much too soon?

You are still really early in healing. It is good that the doctor thinks you are doing well. But that doesn't mean jump right back in. You still need to take it very easy. The 6 week mark is only the initial recovery period. It takes a while to be healed all the way. Take care of yourself.

Re: Did I do too much too soon?

I did the exact same thing and am also a little anxious. How do you know if any damage was done and what is normal. My stomach is unconfortable and it feels swollen, I would swear that it felt pretty normal last week. Date of surgery was 09/25/09.

Re: Did I do too much too soon?

If you did terrible damage you would know because you would have bad new pain & bleeding. Unfortunately you can't tell if you cause adhesions until later. Take it easy.

Re: Did I do too much too soon?

whew, I think I am okay then but it was enough of a scare that I am taking it easier. That is so much harder to do when you feel good. Thanks for the reply

Re: Did I do too much too soon?

I just know of 3 friends that went back to work too soon & did too much & now they are having to have surgery to have the adhesions removed. From what my friends say they feel like pulling & then they just become more painful over the years. You can ask your doctor about them. I just knew to take it easy so as not to cause any.

Re: Did I do too much too soon?

Please take care of yourself, I have never pampered myself in my life. I have always worried about everyone else but I think I deserve this time to heal. I must say it actually feels amazing to just relax and do nothing but pamper the Queen for once in my life.

Re: Did I do too much too soon?

Hi there SeaButterfly,
I had essentially the same procedure. My job requires sometimes 12 hours on my feet. If you went back to work, what time frame? Thanks
