Am I a Medical Curiosity?

I'm 50 and 6 days post op.
I had a uterus the size of a 4 month pregnancy with everything from fibroids to polyps to lesions that all biopsied as "normal" before the emergency visit that precipitated the lavh/ros.
I had been bleeding for 10 weeks straight and was very anemic. I had been put on Prometrium which only slowed things down for about a week. The last straw was when I got up to have a morning BM, with an unusual feeling of pressure and I felt something break on the toilet! I got up and was hemoraging! I couldn't even grab a pad fast enough to prevent a hideous massacre like scene from developing in the bathroom. I had to throw the bathmat into the bathtub and run cold water, before getting dressed ASAP and telling DH we were going to the emergency dept. I had "delivered" a fibroid tumor!
In the ER everyone wanted to examine me. I finally put my foot down, after 3 pelvic exams and refused to let an eager intern have a look for herself. Luckily my own OBG was on call, although it took a couple of hours for her to get to the room.
She said she had only seen this once before and it was a poor woman in Africa! My uterus didn't prolapse. The fibroid was still "happy", attached to a stalk, after passing through my cervix.
Has anyone else gone through this?
I used to say that my period cramps were so bad that I felt sure my body was trying to deliver something. It felt as bad as labor. Now I know why. IT WAS LABOR!
BTW, I have pictures of the bouncing FIBROID. I'm not sure if they would be "decent" to post, but I will if it's OK to share.

Am I a Medical Curiosity?

At times it felt like I was trying to deliver mine - and there were a few times I wish I could deliver it (firmly implanted not on a stalk though)...

You really have to love those interns (for years we used a teaching hospital as our primary - and I got use to the show and tell) - it IS their chance to learn. Glad someone took a pic and no more exams!

Wishing you an uneventful boring recovery.

By all means, post the pictures!!! I'm very curious what a bouncing baby fibroid looks like!
I'm glad you are on your way to recovery!

Am I a Medical Curiosity?

There was one other sister who "delivered" a fibroid. It is very rare, even for hystersisters.

If I can find the link I'll send it to you.

Holy Cow! Or... should I say "congratulations"?

Well, regardless of how you got here... welcome to hystersisters. And, when you post the pics, let us all know!

Wow, that is very interesting. Very glad to hear you are okay. An average uterus weighs about 60-80 (gr), mine weighed 600, so I know the feeling. I also had a fibroid about the size of a grapefruit, but never passed it. Good Luck on a speedy recovery! You should post the pic, if allowed.

Thanks Everyone.
Hey Susan please do find that link too. I do feel like I'm in a different category without anyone else who knows what it's like to have that happen.
I'm staying in a temporary residence Hotel now, because we're remodeling, on top of everything else. We are only minutes from the house, where my scanner is and I'll download pictures the next time I go there. I'm still laying low now and using my laptop in bed.
