Re: 6 week check up

It seems to be different everywhere, and perhaps depends on the type of surgery. I went to my doctor on the seventh day to remove my stitches (here in BG my wound wasn't closed with glue, but with 5 external stitches + one where was the drainage). Then I received instructions for the recovery and was told if everything is OK, check up - after 3 months. I was a little puzzled, but the doctor confirmed 3 months, not 3 weeks
So I think your doc should tell you when to go and if he didn't, it's your decision.
I wish you a speedy and successful healing!

Re: 6 week check up

I'm sure others from UK will post but it seems like what I have read from others is they do have appts from 6 to 8 weeks. It is different from here in the US. Many from UK said that the hospital send them an appt letter. However, I would think you should call and see about an appt.

Re: 6 week check up

When I was discharged from hospital I was told I would get a 6 week follow up call and was given a copy of a letter they were sending to my gp which stated the same.

Six weeks came and went no phone call and the leaflet they gave me before surgery stated telephone follow ups are carried out 6-8 weeks after surgery so I was daft enough to leave it 8 weeks to give them the benefit of the doubt. After that I found my hospital card and phoned the gynaecology number. They said I wasnt on the system and telephone follow ups are done by the ward. They sent me an appointment for March. I e-mailed the complaints dept (the details were on the back of the leaflet the hospital gave me about my operation) and they have managed to rearrange my follow up for this friday and are looking into my complaint that I have not spoken to/seen anyone about my recovery.

If I were you I would find the phone/e-mail details for your local hospital complaints/compliments/comments dept and get on to them straight away. The complaints dept at my local hospital responded the same day.

Good luck in getting some aftercare sorted out.
